Rent a car for OKW?

Hi! This is my first post! We are staying in a villa in May '11. We are not DVC members and booked OKW because it was all that was available for our group of 5. We have a dining plan but wonder about getting groceries delivered or renting a car for a few days at the beginning of the vacation. We are concerned about the waits for buses. Any suggestions?

for the MK and AK the buses are probably better - you park further away from these parks than the buses go.

at Epcot driving is definitely faster.

JMHO, but I wouldn't stay at OKW without a car. I know some people have had great experiences with the bus system here, but in our many stays at OKW it has never been anything outside of inconvenient. If you aren't in a hurry and its not busy the bus is tolerable, but being able to park right outside your villa and hop and go whenever you want is a really nice perk of OKW. I agree that its easiest to take a bus to MK on most occasions, but that is the only park we take a bus to. We love OKW, but do not trust their bus service.

JMHO, but I wouldn't stay at OKW without a car.

We were very happy we had a car at OKW, although we didn't use it all the time. If you send someone out to listen for the bus, that can help avoid missing it by a minute.

I've stayed at OKW many times and always rent a car. It's just easier to get around. I love the freedom of being able to pickup and go offsite or drive to a park. I've never had good luck with busses at OKW, it always seems to be a 15 or 20 minute wait, then it takes forever to go to all the stops.

We have stayed at OKW twice and didn't have a car either time. It was never an issue. There was maybe one time on each trip where the buses took a little longer, but we have had that same experience at every resort we've ever stayed at. I wouldn't bother. Our last trip, we stayed at AKV/BWV. We had to use a taxi because we did the F&W 1/2 marathon and there was no transportation. They only cost about $15. Save your $. By the way - we love OKW. You will love the extra space, kitchen and washer/dryer. The grounds are beautiful. We loved the villas so much we bought into DVC.

In all the times we have stayed at OKW we have only had to wait more then 10 minutes on maybe 2 ocasions. In fact the bus service there is better then most resorts. It also has the added benefit of not sharing a bus with any of the other resort. The boat ride to DTD is so relaxing. AK is far away from everything and the bus service for some of the other resorts is horid.
