Renewing AP Pass for Room Discount?

I really need some help with this. I posted about it on the codes board and haven't gotten any responses yet.

I have a problem. My AP is going to expire in a little over a week. I want to renew it and save money by renewing it before it lapses.

We are thinking of going back in late Sept/early October 2008. The only reason why I'd get the AP is to get a discount on the hotel. We want to try out the BC. I've had the AP for two years now and got a discount in March '06 and in April '07 (both times on the WL).

Sooooooooo, here's my question... if you were me, would you renew the AP and not know if you would even get a discount on the hotel? What do you think the chances are? Are they still coming out with AP discounts on a consistent enough basis for me to chance this? Hmm.

I need to "sell" my DH on renewing my pass, so any advice or thoughts are very welcome!

with the present AP discount - would wait.

do you have a AAA card - they have gotten better discount lately.

besides AAA is a lot cheaper than a AP.

If you renew it the time will start from the date of the original expiration. So you would be losing months of use.

Last year and in 2006, the AAA rate wasn't cheaper than an AP rate, but I will gladly look into it for our Sept '08 trip. We already have AAA so I won't have to pay more to get it. Hmm.

Thanks for your responses!

On top of the other comments... AP discounts have gotten fewer and harder to get. There may not be an AP discount available for your dates and resort. I would wait until the AP discounts come out (if they do), make a ressie, and then order the AP.

Disney has changed - this year the annual pass discount is pretty small.

go look on mousesavers.com - for the real numbers. no more 30 or 40% off.

Thanks for your response. The more I hear, the better I feel about not renewing the pass next week. That's what I'll do... order the AP only if a discount comes out for the BC the week we want to go in late Sept. :wizard:

Thanks Pat... I'll go check it out. I was feeling kind of greedy since I got such a wonderful discount the past two years, which really warranted buying the AP (we only went one week each year, but I still bought the AP for the hotel discount & we bought the DDE card). I started to see some things here on the DisBoards that led me to believe that the AP discount *had* changed and I wanted to hear some feedback. Thanks again.

I've been wondering whether to renew as well.
I think Disney is phasing out those wonderful Passholder resort discounts I took advantage of on many a trip. They seem to be focusing more on "Free Dining". Oh well... I have booked Poly LVC and my DH is fine with paying Rack Rate so I am on :cloud9: for now.

They seem to be doing a good job of keeping their parks and resorts full but with fuel costs what they are, and with the country headed into a recession, you never know what deals may spring up :teacher:

I purchased one thinking that a good discount would come along and I could squeeze in another trip. It did not work out for us so I let it expire in January. Then in February I lucked out and got the 40% off. :cool1:

The AP discounts are fewer and less beneficial in my opinion. I had an AP back in 95 & 96 and it was much better then.

Thanks for your response Johnsonet. I agree, it stinks that we can't get the discounts we used to be able to get. It was someone here at the DisBoards who turned me onto getting an AP for the hotel rate in the first place and we saved like $600 in 2006 and about $700 last April. I really wanted to save that much again. LOL.

Fingers crossed that a deal still springs up! :thumbsup2

Thanks for telling me your experience! I can still hold out hope that a discount will pop up for late Sept and then I'll just buy the AP at that time. I really appreciate everyone's feedback! :flower3:
