So our AP will expire in February. We are in the talks of renewing these for another year... I have a few questions..

Any discounts for renewing? (probably not im sure)
Does it automatically start from our expiration date? or from the first time we use it?
We have the FL resident AP and really seem to make could use of the pass but I dont know if we will be making a trip in Feb/Mar so if no discount for for renewing it may be worth us waiting to purchase new passes on the actual day we go.

Thanks for all the help

Renewal always starts from the expiration date of the previous pass. My expiration date is January 7, when I renew my pass the new one will expire January 7, 2019. If you would prefer that the pass become active when it is first used, you would need a new pass. Sometimes getting a new pass is more financially advantageous than getting the 15% renewal discount, if you aren't planning on visiting for several months after your expiration date.

Agreed. Mine expires Dec 14th, and since I'm not expecting to travel twice between Dec 14, 2017 and Dec 14, 2018, I think I'm better off just letting the renewal discount lapse.

I know you are an FL resident and that is what you question addresses but in case there is anyone else out there following this thread, I have the answer for out of state AP holders.

The after tax purchase price for a non Fl resident platinum pass is $830

This works out to $69/month (value, not payments since we have to pay all at once)

The AP renewal price is $705 for a difference of $125

So, if you are going back to Disney within two months of the expiration of your AP, you are better off renewing it. If it is going to be a 2 month or more gap between trips, get a new pass when you go back.

In many cases that can be true, but if we are going to cover other situations, I have another hypothetical:
If the AP holder will be going back to WDW not within the first couple of months following the renewal date, but ALSO only making trips within the 12 months following the AP renewal
AND, also not returning to WDW within a couple of months AFTER the RENEWAL would expire,
then choosing the AP renewal could then be a good value.

Lots of guests who may have unique travel plans that fit different kinds of situations.

and then there is the dilemma I face. If I don't renew, Disney will announce and AP only Toystoryland preview event during the time I don't have an AP. The good news for everyone else is that you can expect the announcement on May 2 since I expire on May 1.
