"Nothing for the entire family the way ALL of the other DVC resorts currently do..." Wow!

OKW has one of the most nicely themed, complete feature pool areas of any Disney resort -- DVC or not. It's a beautiful, tropical setting with lots of lounge chairs, a large free-form pool (shaped somewhat like Mickey Mouse's head), a children's pool, jacuzzi, and sauna -- with the sauna housed in a lighthouse. There's volleyball, basketball, and tennis. There's a playground and sand area. Turtle Krawl is just steps away, with an excercise room, showers, a small arcade, a snack bar with full bar service.

It's too bad there's nothing for the entire family.

Seriously, OKW is a fully sold resort that was built without a slide. There's no way that Disney Vacation Development would pay for a slide now.

Mr. Horsecollar,
You forgot to mention those wonderful dolphins that all of the little ones love to play and splash around, all the while enjoying the waterfall effects.
It is really nice that there are lounge chairs around the pool. That is always great for the kids when they are at the "pool". Basketball, tennis courts, and volleyball have nothing to do with children enjoying a swimming pool. Saunas are a big thing when kids are at the pool, too.

The amenities at the OKW resort are excellent. A poster commented on the lack of something for the whole family at the main "pool" not the resort. The fact that OKW has, essentially, 4 quiet pools is the way it is. If the resort were being built today, that would probably not be the case. In all likelihood, a slide and/or some type of spray area at the main/feature pool would be a big part of the resort's offering.

It also makes for some nice pics.:)I have even heard some (mostly not OKW home resorters) mention this is a waste of space and should be replaced with a slide. It is not our home resort but our favorite on property and like it the way it is. Now if all pool hopping is discontinued in the future(not to open a whole other can of worms.;) ) I wonder if this would sway anyone's opinion?

I have never been rude to a single poster on these boards. Thank you for talking down to someone you don't know and explaining to me how the DVC works, I really had no idea. I have a few problems in life as most of us do but the OKW resort's lack of a slide isn't one of them, that is called a fact, not a problem. I don't have all the answers but I am amazed that you are able to ascertain my feelings about so many things. All of that doesn't change the fact that the OKW resort's main pool is the least family oriented of all the current and, most likely, any future DVC resorts.
I'm sorry if I offended you, that wasn't my intention, for that I apologize. I have read your posts with the impression that you resent OKW not having a slide and that you further resent OKW member being able to exchange into the other resorts that do have a slide (past posts). I further got the impression that you would just as soon seen OKW not in DVC unless they added a major slide and that you see OKW members as too cheap to pay for a slide. Maybe I read too much into your posts. Still I don't think one could mistake your sarcasm
But as long as they have the lowest dues in the system.....
I don't know how you feel, only what you post. The written word can be a cruel thing when not intended to be. Again, I apologize for misinterpreting what you were saying.

Dean,
Thank you for the apology, I really appreciate that. And yes you did read something in my posts that isn't true if you think that I would ever believe that OKW, the cornerstone of the DVC, should ever not be part of the DVC. Where folks trade is no one else's business. We enjoy the resort very much. What I don't care for at OKW is that we have little kids that we take to other resorts in order that they can play on a waterslide because the flagship resort of the DVC was built at a time when the outcome that was to become this network of wonderful resorts called the DVC was yet to be a success. I don't believe that it is an accident that all of the future DVC resorts included a slide that is, in many ways, what the theme of feature pool is based upon. It doesn't necessarily have to be a slide, a waterfall area for folks to play in or level fountains that squirt intermittently for the little ones would be nice features.

Will the OKW resort ever have something like this? Maybe 10 to 15 years down the road it could happen. Everyone is entitled to their opinions on the subjects that come across these boards. It doesn't make anyone more correct.

My comment about OKW having the lowest maintence fees in the DVC was true and, yes, it was meant to be sarcastic because my memory of the early arguments er discussions about OKW and the resorts more laid back feature pool was that a good many folks weighed in that they did not want to pay for new construction/lifeguard/etc., associated with reworking their pool. In fairness, many, also, weigh in on the side that it fits a laidback atomsphere that gives OKW its ambiance. I have 3 and 5 year old little boys, Bailey and Bradley, so I haven't seen laidback in years and won't in the foreseeable future.

Again, I thank you, for your apology. I learn alot from your posts on these boards. Your knowledge of the various workings of the various timeshare systems is unmatched on these boards, imho.

You and I just won't agree on OKW's feature pool, no harm no foul.

Good. Thanks for accepting my apology. I guess it was the sarcasm that headed me in the wrong direction as I was remembering a long thread about this very subject and your participation. I have no problem if someone likes or doesn't like OKW or feels it should or should not have a pool. I like aspects of all the resorts but have my preferences for various reasons. I personally prefer OKW without a pool regardless of costs but I also like it having lower fees. I find the activity and noise levels so much better at the pools that don't have them.

I would agree that if OKW were being built today, I see it as having a more centrally located themed pool with maybe a quiet pool in another section. I've always though it was strange to have the activities, restaurant, pool, etc at the distant edge of the resort. For some reasons a lot of timeshare do this but I don't understand why. I realize that phased resort will have a certain amount of urban sprawl but it doesn't have to be as obvious as it is at OKW. Since we live in FL and always drive everywhere except MK, it has never been an issue. I can understand those who don't have a car or don't want to drive not being thrilled. OKW would have been better suited to those without a car had it been more of a wheel and spoke set up.

I am unable to view these photos because it says I do not have permission... Could someone repost them or maybe email to me? I cannot wait to see them. Thanks!! Ken
