Hi all,

My family and I will be on the Dream in Jan 2016, and one of the things we are VERY excited about is dinner at Remy. However, my 25 year old daughter is unable to eat anything besides VERY soft food (think the consistency of yogurt or cottage cheese) that have no solids in them. (we are in the process of getting her an alternate feeding method). However, since half the fun of Remy is the experience also, she still wants to come with the rest of us; there will be 6 of us total. I don't mind AT ALL the expense of her going, but I'm wondering if I should contact them ahead of time and let them know about this so I don't surprise them while we are sitting at the table when we tell them she can't actually EAT anything. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Any comments much appreciated!

That's fantastic. I would absolutely contact them ahead of time, both through the general dining/special needs online notification/check in and then via TA/DCL and as soon as boarding, I would have someone in your party go to Remy and discuss your needs with the reservations desk. I'm not sure exactly what courses they can provide, but I am sure they can provide an experience along with the family, especially given your willingness to have her be a guest along with the rest of the family ( ie pay and I don't know how to say that less crassly). In any event, I'm not sure how much info they would for sure get from shoreside, but I would definitely send all the info I could and go there the first day. Hopefully, if it's mostly a mechanical issue more so than other food allergies in addition, there might be more options than we can imagine. Good luck!

Thank you for the ideas! I hadn't thought to visit the reservations desk once we board. I will also contact those two departments. We are planning on Remy the first night of the cruise, and no matter what happens, it will all be wonderful!

From what I've read of DCL and Remy, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually take on the challenge of trying to concoct some dishes she can enjoy or at least taste, unless we're misunderstanding the situation (and if so I apologize). If it's just a texture/viscosity issue, though, I bet they'll do something.

Something slightly different but an example, I do not eat fish or seafood, I contacted them in advance, and they produced my own menu, same costs but avoided anything I do not eat.

Yes, it's very wise to let them know in advance. Specially since you will be there on the first night. DCL is outstanding in adapting to all kinds of food situations. It will probably be a nice challenge for the Chef to provide her a first class experience. I'm certain the Remy staff will do their best and with your attitude of "whatever happens, we will have a great time" things will work out fine.

Additionally have her needs noted with your reservation and discuss with the head waiter on embarkation day. The MDR staff will also work with you to provide her with the best possible experience. This works best when they know in advance about her possibilities and limitations. Do not hesitate to discuss with your head waiter, that's one of his tasks en he does it best if he knows.

Enjoy your meal!
