Son calls me and the entire new 8 outfits, tops and bottoms from the Osh Kosh outlet just got ruined in the dryer from a crayon in a pocket.

Any tricks to try and save the outfits? They are med to dark colors.
The only thing I could think of is candle wax remover maybe, but the color is into the fabric...candle wax I sometimes could use an iron and brown paper bag, none of which he has handy until tomorrow.

Trying to find something in shorts to fit from last year for school tomorrow.

I was going to say brown paper bag and an iron.

You could probably throw old rags, paper towels in the dryer with the clothes and see if that works.

It happened about 10 yrs ago at a daycare I worked at we took all the wet coats and put them in the dryer. Unfortunately one child had at least one crayon in their pocket. Yikes! We had to send out a letter to the parents of the kids that had crayon on their coat. The daycare offered to pay for dry cleaning if they brought in the receipt.

Good news, nobody needed dry cleaning. Most of the parents just washed the coat again and it came off.

Ack! I did this with an entire load of White clothes and an orange crayon a few years ago:sad2:

I was not able to get the crayon out, but I think I was doomed from the start because everything was white. I do want to tell you to use a Magic Eraser to get any crayon off of the dryer drum. Even the littlest bit will heat up the next time the dryer is used and ruin those clothes too:sad2:

I think what worked for me was to clean with the Magic Eraser, and then run a white rag for awhile to make sure it was all gone. Good Luck!
It had to be new clothes too didn't it?:headache:

We had this happen after St Patrick's Day. DH did not realize that DD had brought every green crayon she owned to school for the holiday. One got left in her pocket.

I just sprayed them with Tide stain remover and rewashed in hot water to help melt the crayon and it all came out.

Good luck to you!

Do you have any of those stain release tablets like from Tide? Maybe try that?

Maggie

Ok I just went through this with my DD and a red crayon. It was all over her socks, underwear, pants and one set of DHs work clothes. I put everything back in the dryer and ran a load to soak and then wash with oxyclean and vinegar. I ws so excited when I opened the washer to see almost everything clean. I think 2 things still had a little bit of pink tint but I saved a whole load of clothes.

IDK if this would work or not. I got RED candle wax on my light cream carpet and it was a lot. A friend told me apply heat from hair dryer and blot as it melted. I had tried the iron and brown bag, ice, etc. I was amazed because it all came out and there was no tinge of pink. Might be worth a try but might not work if crayon got heat set in dryer. I'd try the different methods people have advised on just one outfit....or item. If it works then do rest.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

We've never had a crayon problem.

DH once left a gel ink pen in his pocket. It exploded all over the shirt. Repeated washing with hair spray, stain remover, and Oxyclean got all the stain out.

Just don't give up!

And don't you feel great that your son still asks your advice, OP?!

My son left a black crayon in one of his pockets a while back. I used Oxi-Clean stain remover gel (it's like a stain stick), and it got it out of most of the clothes after SEVERAL washings. Some pieces never came clean. One pair of khaki cargo pants were ruined and a few more pieces. I feel your pain!

WOW thanks for all the great ideas and info.
Sadie, Yes, feels good that ds will ask for my advice. He is rearing my dgs alone and is never afraid to ask for help.

He did think at one time I must still have the parental mind read power to "know his needs."

The first thought was to rewash after spraying with spray and wash just to do something until I could get a look at things today,

THANKs for the dryer tip, I may have over looked that. I love my magic erasers!

Miss nurse, that is what I am thinking the cargo shorts are going to be the worse. I am having him bring the load up today so I can work on it. It just was so disheartening it was the entire new clothing.
Murphy's Law.

Best of all great hearing this does happen to others. I have no memory of anything happening, not to this extent with a crayon.

Now, bleach spots and red underwear, been there done that.

crayon in the wash seems to happen alot in my household..lol i have used wd-40 and have had great luck. you have to soak the clothes, spray with wd-40, scrub the marks (i have used an old toothbrush), and then rewash to get the smell out. hope this helps!

I have gotten crayon out of clothes with Dawn dish soap. This has happened to me several times. Thought I had learned my lesson the first time:confused3

Thanks for the ideas,

I am on my way down with WD40 and dawn, foam degreaser. The clothes got washed again. See what happens.

Baking soda! Most everyone always has a box at the house already. I have used it to get crayon and lipstick/balm out of washed clothes. A small box should do the trick. Hope that helps.
