I am not sure what you are referring to. Would you mean to say Lymph Nodes / Sarcoma? If not I think you might need to explain a bit more to get more responses.

probably lipoma

No clue - I have to have what is either a lipoma or a fibroadenoma removed- but I am waiting for more tests befoer I go to the surgeon as I have a cysts that needs furthetr testing and thay may need a biopsy..

My guess is initial visit will just be a consult and they'll have you come back for actual removal once they determine how they will take them out. AFter that they will probably be sent for a biopsy.

I think you do mean lymph nodes/sarcoma. Let the doctor biopsy and tell you what is going on. Years ago, some doctors thought that I had cancer. Once they got the tumor out of me, it was a benign situation. They often cannot tell what something is until they have it in their hands for the pathology. Try to do what you can to relax a little and ask the doctor what you can take for the pain that you are having. I will keep you in my thoughts.

I had a lipoma removed from my spine in 1998. It had grown around and into my spinal column, so was originally expected to be a pretty simple surgery ended up being much more complex. After about a week I was feeling better and no longer needed any pain meds, two weeks later I resumed *most* of my normal activities. It took a full year to be fully recovered--again because my spine had been so involved. But at that point I felt better than I ahd in several years--the tumor had been compressing my vertabrae.

I was told that it could possibly grow back--so far it hasn't. I still have itching on the incision site now and then.

I am not sure if you mean lipoma also. I had one removed from my upper back two years ago. If this is it, ask away.

I went through this also about 2 years ago. My whole family (even the skinny ones) seem to develop lipoma's, which are fatty tumors..I started getting this pain under my left rib which I ignored as long as possible then found a lump. I was sure it was pancreatic cancer..I had an ultrasound that didn't even show it, but the pain worsened. I was then sent for a cat scan with contrast. All they discovered was a cyst in my liver (other side) which they said was common. Fatty tumors do not show up on scans so I think you will have good news also! Surgery was an option if the pain didn't subside but after a month or two it did. Bottom line is I am fine now, just lumpy! I know it is very frightening, good luck!

My DH had several lipomas removed. We didn't know what the lumps were and they said it could be cancer. It was not cancer, just lipomas. He still gets them and if he wants to get them removed he can. So far, they are not causing him pain so no removal.

I got a lipoma too! Haven't had it removed but it grosses me out. My insurance doens't cover removal of it since it isn't medically "necessary". Sure a big fatty tumor looks just grand on my ribcage!

I have felt so all alone - I am so glad to hear that other people have lipomas! But it sounds like most of you have have very few of them, while I must admit I have tons! Many of them cause me pain, but none of the doctors I have seen about them said they could be removed. A couple of them have grown quite large and I would rather have them gone.

yes i think we are talking about the same , it causes constant pain on my left side to sit or lay on that side cant do dye contrast allergic to can the do an mri?primary dr. says thye should come out , i have blue cross wonder will they deny? thanks

You don't need to be injected with dye for an MRI. It's more like an X-Ray. painless and easy.

I had BC/BS when mine was removed, it was fully covered. I had a couple of $10 office visit co-pays, that was all.

In my case it was causing pain, and could have caused a serious problem with compression of my spinal cord, so it was medically neccesary to remove.

If you are in pain, it isn't cosmetic and your insurance should pay for it!

Perhaps of the location and not touching anything significant yet, I had no pain or discomfort when I discovered it. I was feeling something not long after that. I actually thought I pulled a muscle or sprained by back shoveling snow. It was during the winter so it was hard to notice at first. It grew to be the size of a baseball/tennis ball - half of that was on top of my back and the other half inside. I looked like hunchback of notre dame. It was so noticeable through my tops that I wanted to stay inside until it was removed. It was also fully covered by my insurance. Of course, they do a bioposy (sp?) once removed and all was okay.

My mom had one lower back, close to spine. My neighbor has quite a few of them on her stomach area - you can barely see them see she is a bit heavier. She is now in her 70s and since they did not hurt or show when discovered years ago, they did not feel it was necessary to remove them.

I guess it all depends how big, where they are (noticeable) or attached/pushing on certain areas.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I am wondering if this is what i'm dealing with. I have alot of pain in my left flank, esp. when I'm trying to sleep. I had alot of stomach work-ups done. They found gert and a hernia. Treating this removed half of the pain, but the odd pain/pulling feeling I get on my right side is still there. I also have a lump on the top of my back/neck. It looks like a hunch back thing. It's not big but sometimes I really notice it. I have constant back pain. They said the back and stomach problems are connected. I've had an MRI but it was too look at the insides as they were concerned about pancreatic cancer.

I hope you took your claim thru the review process. I would not have let this go.

As most have said, it's probably a lipoma which is a pretty common thing. Sarcomas are relatively rare - about 5,000 cases diagnosed each year world wide (my DH and a coworker, among them). Diagnostic proceedures, such as MRI's, CAT scans and biopsies are the same for each- they have to find out what it is in order to treat it. Diagnostic tests are usually pretty quick - like a regular doctor appoitment.

Your doctor should take the time to discuss all the tests, etc with you. If s/he hasn't, ask - that's what they are there for.

Stop worrying, the odds are so in your favor it's a lipoma
