I did mine today for 3 of us even though we aren't going for ages. The other two will have new passports when we go. Very straightforward.

We did our ESTA`s in February for our August holiday. We are now thinking of California either Aug 2011 or Aug 2012. My question is..can I do new ones tomorrow that would then cover both summers, or as we already have them do I have to let them expire?

Yes you can. make a new application and it will be fine.

Thanks for the reminder I renewed all ours even though we've no plans to go to US within the next two years but you never know, we may win the lottery tomorrow night!!

Not planning on going until the summer of 2012 but just completed ours.

All shown as pending at the moment whereas when we did them last time they were approved immediately. I guess they are being swamped with requests.

The site was very slow and I got kicked out of the site a few times!

We did ours a few months ago for the holiday we have just had and put in the dates and hotel name, would this still be valid if we go next year or do we need to to another one as the dates/hotel would be different even though it would be within the 2 years?

It will still be valid and you can go in and update the details (although they are optional). However, if you renew today before the charge comes in it will over-write your existing application and give you 2 years from today before you have to pay to renew

Ok guys, I've put today as the last day for free ESTA as I've read conflicting reports that it's tomorrow (8th) and some say it's Thursday (9th) so rather be safe than sorry and get it done today!

Have just seen this link on another board which is an FAQ for ESTA which seems to be the official one.

Alot of the common questions seem to be answered within it

Oh just a warning as well, have read reports the ESTA site is very busy and slow, obviously due to everyone getting their last minute applications in!

i am now getting in a painic as i've recieved our other 2 childrens passports this morning, just in time to apply for thie ESTA s ! brilliant timing! but both applications are 'pending' why is this? & it says a decision will be made in 72 hours, do we still not have to pay for the visas?
please help i am getting totally confused i already have mine hubbys & 4 yr old sons as all our passports were valid, i have printed them all off & just need the other 2

I suspect it could be to do with the heavy traffic on the site at present. It is obviously taking longer to check due to the heavy demand on the site. If you had no hassles last time you did them and nothing has changed, then it is most likely just down to slow system.

gonna keep trying but looks like unless ths is resolved today (US just coming online now) im left with having to pay - thatll teach me to leave everything till last minute!!!

I left it till today as we have valid estas but I wanted to extend them free and as DD starts school in 2012 I couldn't be sure of our travel dates yet as we may go late August/Early September and wanted them to be valid incase - now I might have to pay
