Just wanted to remind everyone who is travelling to DLR this weekend to not be surprised, since it is Bats Days - the goth DL weekend. It's a really fun time to go, as the goth crowd comes out in force - great people watching and low crowd levels. The folks who attend this event (with their young families in tow) are super nice, albeit dressed a bit differently. Some of the Disney tattoos you'll see are wicked cool, too.

We aren't goth (I could never pull it off), but certainly know some folks who are.

A Cast Member was telling us about Bats Days when we were there in October. She was commenting on how many people/families choose to stay away during Gay Days and Bats Days because they uncomfortable around people with different lifestyle choices and increased crowds, but that it is really too bad, especially on Bats Days, because the crowds are really interesting to look at. She said the Goths come decked out in really great regalia with parasols and all kinds of cool things. I have a darn AP now (until next October). I would love to go down there sometime and check it out, just to people watch!

Sherry - you would have 2 chances, as attendees are in the park both Saturday and Sunday.

My husband commented, this morning, that Saturday would be a great time to go - it would be an especially interesting mix - since according to other threads, they are filming the Christmas Parade this weekend, too! :happytv:

I have to start figuring out some good transportation options to get down to DLR every now and then, while I have the AP. When I was planning our (probable but not definite yet) December trip to DLR with a GCH stay (which I may have to cancel, but I won't know until early December!), I was thinking about how our trips usually go and the sorts of things that my friends don't like to fuss with doing when we are there. I usually miss out on looking in shops or taking photos of things I want to do because I don't want to make them wait for me when we could be doing something else. So I realized if I didn't have to look in SO many shops or take SO many pictures during my trips with friends, and could go to DLR by myself on other occasions to do just those things, then we would get more rides in when we all go together and the trips would flow better and I wouldn't feel like I missed out on anything. I could do days alone where I just did nothing but take pictures of bathroom signs or attraction signs all day. Or I could do other days where I did nothing but look in shops. And this would be good to do ESPECIALLY while I am not working (other than my freelance work at home), because I could go on any day. I could go on Bats Days (and stick out like a sore thumb because I am as far from Goth as you can get - other than the pasty skin!)!!

But I have to find a shuttle service that picks me up at home and take me to DLR that does not charge $150 each way!!!! Crazy!

I was under the impression that the "official" Bat's Day visit to the parks was on Saturday? Is it actually both Sat & Sun? How much does this affect the crowd level?

What's this about filming the Christmas parade?

Looking forward to meeting up with you, Nancy!

Bats Day tends to span the whole weekend, as it is a multi-day convention - makes crowds light the whole time! :cool1:

I need to call DL and ask when the official filming times were. Can't find the original thread - basically they will run the Christmas parade for the cameras and have performances by the celebrities, so there is a chance you might see HSM3 stars, or other Disney Channel celebs in the park.

Sounds like fun.

i'll be there this Sunday celebrating my birthday! well that was yesterday but hey, i'll extend it as long as i can!

so this is good news in my opinion. i don't mind the goth folks and if it means that more families will likely not go to the park and the crowds are smaller, i am happy! i hope it's cool weather. i hate the sun.

see you guys there sunday. i'll be the other non goth looking whiteboy haha

Actually the official day in the park is Sunday the 9th, on Saturday all of the events are at a local hotel. You may see some crowds on Sat, but most will be there Sunday.

Here's the website if your curious http://batsday.net

That's one of the reasons I've now done two solo days; the one in Jan made our family May trip MUCH better, and I'm sure being there yesterday will make a future family trip better.

Wish I could go for Bats Day, and actually I wish I'd been there on the 2nd, b/c it was Harry Potter day (another unofficial one, obviously). :)

We were there on the 2nd and if you didnt know about HP day you'd miss it - saw two people wearing schoolgirl type uniforms with ties and that was about it. I know they keep it all low key until they take a group pic in front of the castle...

I love solo trips just to take pictures. I did that in early October to take pictures of the Dia de los Muertos display.

I we left on the 2nd (from my uber super personal Dreams tour :) ) so missed the fun :(

I hope people buy my new custom Mickey Ears cause I would love some of the hats to end up in Dis pics heheh:rotfl:

Stupid double post!

So I will add, yeah I bet HP was low key since Disney is a stickler about costumes for adults. I am hoping I can slide my outfit by Disney officials. Or I might wear it on Saturday, going simpler on Sunday.

I've been to 4 Bat's Days so far (going to miss this year's :sad1: but am making up for it in December ;) ). The only time I had a problem with anything that I wore was a few years ago, when I was asked politely to remove my "spiked accessories" and stow them in the car / a locker. Wasn't planning on whacking anyone over the head with them or anything :rotfl: but I can see how they might be a problem in crowded areas. (Wouldn't want to accidently poke someone's kidlet w/ a spiked bracelet!)

The only other things that I've heard about not being allowed in attire-wise are full-on character costumes *for obvious reasons* and anything that might be a liabilty/safety hazard- ie: super-high heels, capes, any clothing item that drags on the ground, super-long wallet chains, etc..

Fairycat - we'll be there Saturday, too. We're going to try to see the parade taping and then are meeting Hulamom for lunch.

Look for me wearing a red long-sleeved Tshirt with a square graphic of Mickey and Pluto Christmas Carolling art - pushing a aqua and brown Graco double stroller with handlebars that stick upwards. The girls are both under 3.5 and will either be wearing fairy costumes (Tink and Irridessa - the yellow one) or red christmas sweaters - depending on if we are waiting for the parade taping.

We'll have LGMHs hanging from the stroller handles.

Sadly since DH does not have a pass yet and we are vending at the Saturday event we probably won't make it to the parks on Saturday. That and I think that DH is running to the end of his patience with Mickey. He is not a huge Disney fan and this will be his third trip in less then a week and a half  Though going to Club 33 slightly eased the one trip (too bad the food stunk).

That is sad you are missing the trip this year spacemermaid, it should be nice not cooking in the hot sun this year hahah!

I had a friend sent back for a spiked necklace too. Me I had a CM "remind" me I was not in costume when I wore my Lolita dress and hair falls. Funny thing I didn't think I was that dressed up but he obviously thought I was right on that edge haha!

I have been very interested in attending bats day, since learning about it several years ago. Alas, have not had an opportunity to attend,as of yet.
Thing is though, I still am trying to figure out what shoes would be good to wear, since I have a couple of pairs, that would work well, they are by Demonia/Pleaser, but the heels are not exactly what I would consider easy to walk in all day long, at Disneyland. Flat shoes, I just don't think would look good, not on me anyway. Oh well, I have but another year to work on my shoe situation. he he! :)

Don't ask me I have 4+" platforms I have been wearing to the parks in the past. Only issue with those is they make my calves too long for some of the rides :rotfl: I have to angle my knees down to the side so I can bring the lap bar down over my knees on Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain!!

;) he he. I could go ahead and wear what I have, and take a chance. I am 5 feet 8 inch's, my shoes would make me at least 6 feet tall. Which I love that. I would just worry about twisting my ankle or something, like getting wedged in one of the rides. ;) he he! If anything, I would just have to take them off at some point, and walk around in my stockings. :) I did that one day, last year, when my boots were starting to just kill my feet upon the cement ground, at Disneyland. It was interesting.
