Take a moment, relax, enjoy a life, a birthday, Sylvia's......

Many folks here on the DIS, who have come here in the past 2 1/2 years, are not
familiar with Sylvia, though do see periodic references to her in posts every
now and then, or in memorial clipart in some DIS'ers signatures, like mine
below.

Sylvia came to the DIS, in early 2000, like most of us,
searching for some Disney answers, and she found the DIS, and likewise, the DIS
found Sylvia. She came, looking to make a magical trip to Disney World, a
spur of the moment trip, for her and her son, Nick, then about 5 years old,
shortly before she was about to restart chemo, due to a recurrence of her breast
cancer, originally diagnosed and treated in mid 1998. Sylvia was able to
go, making lifelong memories for little Nick. Some folks on the DIS, among
them Pete, helped indeed make her and Nick's WDW trip a reality, a magical
memory.

Shortly after that trip, Sylvia's health, from the ravages of
her breast cancer, slowly deteriorated, with her finally passing away, June 7th,
2001. A very sad day, a sad time here on the DIS for many people. Our friend, Sylvia,
here on the DIS for less that 18 months, and passing away about 2 1/2 years ago,
made a very lasting and indelible impression and memory on so many.

But today, we celebrate the memory of Sylvia's birth,
42 years ago, January 14th, 1962. A happy day it was. I talked to
Sylvia's mom, Margarete, a few hours ago, so nice to reminisce about her
daughter, Sylvia, our friend.

In Sylvia's memory, let us all try to do our part in
maintaining good health.

Very touching tribute, Dan... nice memories you shared here. I hope Nick is doing well.

Happy Birthday Sylvia.

I'm sorry i wasn't here when she was. Sounds like someone I would have like to know.

Thanks for the reminder, Dan. I am sure Sylvia is smiling down on everyone from heaven. Happy Birthday, Sylvia!!

What a beautiful remembrance Dan. Very special lady. Happy Birthday Sylvia.

Sylvia was my very first friend on the DIS. I came to the DIS in Jan. 2000 and didn't register until a month later.

She gave me such laughter and joy in her posts and emails! I was wary of forming friendships via the net - and was sometimes hesitant about giving out information. I only wish that I could turn back time - I would have driven to Canada to meet this lovely lady in person in a New York minute.

Sylvia loved candles, fishing, the outdoors, her dogs, her SO, Dan and her son, Nick, and as Dan Murphy mentioned, otters. She was a proud Canadian and had such a wonderful sense of humor. Everytime I drive by a Motel 6 I think of Brad Pitt in a hot fudge sundae dish - well...... I guess you had to be there!;) Let's just say that we got severely reprimanded for that particular post! :o

Sylvia's courage, strength, love, and compassion for others even when she was so sick remains an inspiration to me.

As I once told her, she will always be my hero.

How sweet of you to pay tribute to Sylvia in such a lovely way, Dan. You sure help keep our memories of her alive. Thanks. :D

Make that appointment to get checked up....today

There truely isn't a day that goes by, without me thinking about our dearest Sylvia.

Last year, through my ordeal with cancer, which I pray is over,
I thought alot about what pain, grief, hope, faith, etc....
she went through.

Happy Birthday to a courageous woman, who surely touched many of our lives!

And God Bless her son, Nick.

That was beautiful Dan.. I hadn't cried yet this morning, so I guess it was time.....:(
