Remember When.....?

I remember..

record albums and turn tables...
3 major networks, PBS and two other local stations were all that was available on TV...
making brownies 'from scratch' (no brownie mixes, only cake mixes)
soft drinks were made with real sugar..not corn sweetener
being able to talk to 'live' people..and not voice menus
having change 'counted back' to me when purchasing something
teachers having control of the classroom..and not living with dread that a parent was going to confront them over justified discipline
'blue laws' (certain establishments not open on Sundays)

I also remember not having the internet and cell-phones..and wonder how we did without them :)

gas was 89 cents a gallon when I was 17 and ciggaretts (sp) were around $2.00

I remember tabs on cans of pop that pulled all the way off. We were forever cutting out feet on the ones discarded on the ground. I grew up in the days before seatbelts were even standard, let alone required by law. Remote controls connected to the vcr with a wire. My first job paid $2.75 an hour. I remember buying cigarettes for my mother with just a note she had written when I was less than 10 years old and paying under $1 for them. Rotary dial phones that connected directly into the wall and then being really uptown when you got a real long cord so you could walk around the house while on the phone dragging 20 feet of cord behind you. Being afraid to misbehave in class because you could be spanked and your parents would think you deserved it too. Riding my bike to Hardees on a Saturday afternoon to buy a burger and small pop for .76. Regular gas was called ethyl. Writing actual hand written letters and phone numbers that started with letters. Black and white tv in huge consoles that also had a record player and radio in them. Cars without cup holders and smoking allowed EVERYWHERE, there was no such thing as a smoking section.

wearing a pair of thongs were meant for your feet! My DD rolls her eyes at me everytime I say "thongs" insted of "flip-flops" !!!

I remember that too. And it wasn't that long ago ;)

i remember-

shasta sodas were 10 cents per can
royal crown cola (before it became r.c.)
blue nehi cream soda (looked like you were drinking a bottle of windex ;) )
thrifty ice cream cones-5 cent single scoop, 10 cent double, 15 cent triple
wonka bars-when the original movie came out
bell beefers at taco bell (i miss these!)
mom deciding which gas station to go to based on the giveaway (i got my noahs ark from arco!) AND who was giving out more blue chip stamps
a "hot new" record cost $4.99 (and that was a lot of money for a teenager)
mini skirts, midi skirts, and maxi skirts (all popular at the same time)
girls finaly being able to wear pants to public school (instead of those heavy itchy tights)
hot lunch at school (and it was made at school not trucked in) 35 cents
checking the tops of soda bottles to see if you won some chage

p.s. i can still get my tab fix at a couple of local markets-but only in a can

When Fox was just another channel just starting out
When I got the movie "Grease" soundtrack-was my first record
When I started selling Girl Scout cookies, they were .50/box and we were allowed to go door to door

I remember riding my bike to McDonald and paying $1 for a coke, fries, and cheeseburger! I also remember when you had 1 tv and when the President was on, you were out of luck! Watching Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights every other week since my dad got to watch Sixty Minutes one Sunday and then next I could watch Disney!
I also remember pong, then upgrading to Nintendo- my first computer- Commadore 64- going from an 8 track to a boom box with a cassette player then when I was 16- getting my first portable CD player for my car!!
Times were great!

I remember when I got my first car, I ordered it, a 76 Chrysler duster, gas was 65 cents a gallon for unlead and at 18 I thought that was alot of money

I remember when gasoline had lead in it. :earseek:
And it only cost around 30 cents a gallon. :earseek:
And I remember when the 2 for a penny candy doubled in price. :(
(That put a real crimp in my allowance)
