Well, some of you may recall me posting a few months ago how we wouldn't be able to afford all the original people (115) told about the wedding over a year ago...
Well, the invites went out to all of them anyway, and we had about 55 say Yes. There were many people who had a change in circumstances - most of my family actually.
I was so looking forward to meeting my DF's west coast family since, after almost 13 years of dating I had only met one aunt and uncle. THis is his Dad's side of the family or as he puts it, his favorite. THis is his Puerto Rican side of the family. HIs mother is English and most of her sisters/brothers live around us and we see them all the time.
Well, one of his cousin's who I was so looking forward to meeting, just passed away yesterday AM.
She had a brain anuerism, had been in a coma for 23 days and 4 days ago, the family was informed there was no longer any brain activity. The family made the difficult decision to take her off of life support. It is very sad and my DF is planning on flying out to CA today or tomorrow AM for the funeral. Because of the cost of the wedding and the fact that's its' less than 4 weeks away, we can only afford for him to go out. When the family found out (about 2 weeks ago) how serious Cookie's condition was, they cancelled their trip to the wedding and quite understandably. I just wish I could have met her. I had heard such wonderful things about her and my mother actually had the opportunity to speak with her on the phone before my bridal shower. SHe had sent her favorite cook book with all the PR recipes she makes and a current pic of her, her daughter and her new grand daughter ( who were living with her). Please keep the entire family in your prayers. THey are such a tight-knit family. They all live within 15 mins of each other and are always getting together for family dinners and celebrations. That is the kind of family I would love to have and hope to raise one day.
I also just found out my cousin ( the only other family I had coming besides my immediate family) is probably not coming now. He is a Colonel in the Army reserves and has to go to Houston for a week - of course, it had to be the week right before my wedding... he doesn't think he'll be able to leave early and so they won't be able to come...
Also, we haven't heard from one of his friends in CA (Not related to the above mentioned family). He had said they were coming about 6 weeks ago, however, the room block was released and he and his wife were NOT on the final tally. He has a call out to them to see if they booked outside of the block or outside the resorts or if they will be unable to make it now as well. He's in the movie industry and as of a few months ago had said things were slow and he wasn't able to come out for the bachelor party... understandable... but hey, we are only a few weeks away now and if you're not going to be able to come, perhaps a phone call or even an e-mail would be in order... I also requested everyone's hotel information when I sent out the invites, so they did know I needed that info....
Oh well... at this point I believe we are down to 47, possibly, 45. In one way it's ok because we don't have to pay as much, however, I was so looking forward to sharing our day with these people.
Sorry for making this so long, but my best friend (BFF) is on a retreat from now until Sunday night with no contact and you guys are the next best friend I have (besides my DF of course.
)
THanks for listening.
