Remember When Castle was a Cake?

Our Wishes Cruise Captain mentioned the birthday castle as we were passing GF's wedding pavilion. He told us the resort had loads of wedding cancellations that year because people didn't want that castle in their wedding photos. Guess Disney will think twice before making such a radical change again.

I liked the castle as a cake. I like it better now but the cake wasn't bad.

That was my DW's first trip and it made it more fun for her. She really enjoyed it and has been a Disney fan ever since. I know Disney has always got some kind of celebration going on and that is when we like going. The parties that they throw are outstanding. I am hoping they do something similar during their 40th Anniversary. I will be there.

We thought it was horrible. The back side wasn't covered, so you could get the traditional look from Fantasyland.

that was our 'DD's first trip to the World. She was four at the time and was very excited that she was going to see Mickey and the Castle! We were walking down Main Street and she saw the "cake" castle and was devistated!! She thought that we were at the wrong park!! We took her around to the back so that she could see that it really was the castle but all covered up. It was ghastly and we were more than glad to see it gone on our next trip!!! :maleficen :wizard:

Hey Metallicat, thats the shirt I have. I just packed it for my trip next week.

We loved the castle cake! It was pure fun! It was my daughters first trip to WDW also, so the cake made it that much more memorable. I'm glad it was temporary, but it made for a great memory of our aug 1997 trip. Our castle cake photos are very special to us and sure don't blend in with the rest. ;) I dunno.. I guess I'm just a big kid at heart.

i do remember that monstrosity. who's idea was that? what a disappointment to walk down mainstreet only to find a huge wad of cotton candy where the castle used to be.
Glad to hear I was not the only one who ABSOLUTELY hated that thing........for petes sake it was Pepto Bismal pink!!!

I didnt get to go to MK when the pink cake was up but my mom went and brought back pictures......lets just say it wasnt the best reaction from me....I thought it ruined that fairytale princess look that i loved about it....

I keep hearing about this "Stitch" castle....does anyone have any pics ? Stitch is one of my faves (if u cant tell by my siggy) and would like to see how it looks

as for the new decorations they've got on it I LOVE THEM....i really think they are beautiful...its still the castle i know and love but kind of dressed up...I love all the golden characters around the outside...and the way that the castle sparkles like glitter...the only thing i dont like is that the Clock on front is all covered up (even though the stained looking glass IS pretty, I just liked the clock on front)

hey i have that shirt too!!!! we loved the castle as the cake. it was something different. and we loved it this year too. i have to admit just plain castle, no decorations is my favorite way, but we like to see it dressed up for a celebration too!!!

Sadly enough, the one year I didnt go to WDW is the year the castle was a cake. So sad, so sad... :sad2:

Our last visit was in 97, boy did I hate that look,
Pepto cake yep, made me sick.

Making our first visit since then, glad my dd(8) will get to see a much better version.

To SAfety mom: Thanks for the pic of the castle for stitch even though i dont like it....it just looks like someone t.p's my beloved castle!

:wizard: I admit it...I enjoyed the Castle Cake too! :maleficen LOL I was a CM then at WDW so it was really special to me. It brings back so many great memories too. I have seen the Castle in its regular form so many times, the cake was a nice change. :flower: Rebecca

I'm sympathetic to all those that hated it but to me I represented something different. It was back when Disney wasn't afraid to take chances. They were willing to spend money to entertain and amuse!

I personally thought it was a creative and quite expensive idea and since it wasn't permanent, not at all a problem for me. I, by chance, went to WDW twice that year. Once in February and again in March. I have a lot of pictures of the castle cake because I knew it was a one time thing. History! Cinderellas castle is very nice but like the cake it is also make believe.

To whomever said that the back wasn't covered, all I can say is that I have no recollection of that. I must have been looking the other way or something. I thought the whole thing was a cake. If it wasn't it must have been handled very well because I never noticed.

I didn't read all the posts, but I loved the castle as a cake. I know alot of people hated it and thought it was terrible, but I thought it was really really creative.
