Does anyine remember when the polynesian had concierge service in the room where they have all the expensive jewelry and art work(across from the front desk)? It was so relaxed and fun ,of course it still is now -but sometimes i like the "good ole days"!I didnt see the birds in the lobby this time-the "new Lobby" that is????

I remember the old concierge room. We stayed there for our first time when we went on our honeymoon. It was before they did anything for newly wedded couples. We had a beautiful lagoon room with a perfect view of the castle. I don't think we ever used the service of the concierge at all. We were young and so happy to be in the Poly. What a wonderful trip.

This was my first concierge experience, I would say it was probably 16 yrs ago. The concierge staff and all the goodies were in the same room. I remember feeling strange helping myself to all the offerings, it was a wonderful experience.:)

Yes. The old concierge was in the room where Wyland galleries is now. The lobby waterfall was redone because the pumps had to be replaced. They had to take out many of the original plants but they did a good job with all the new stuff.

The birds were removed a few months ago and will not be coming back due to people throwing things at them from above. They are now at AK.

Aloha

To me the birds were a wonderful part of the whole theme in the GCH. They'll surely be missed.

thats sad about the birds.:(

on a similar note....when we were at the Polynesian there were 2 sets of baby ducks in the little stream. one day I saw 3 small boys about 4-7 trying to STOMP them.....and saying "kill those birds"..... I wanted to say something but my DH wouldn't let me since he was afraid I would end up in a fight with the mom or something......but I did watch to make sure the duck family got in the water safely......

it just makes me sad to see people take nature for granted.

Our first trip to WDW was in 1989 at the Poly Concierge. I agree that the lobby with the birds and all the plants was better back then.

But I really like having the concierge the way it is now. IMO it is much better than the good old days.

I remember the old Concierge as well. It was in 1991 during our honeymoon. What a wonderful experience. We did have one thing happen there that made me thing again about eating the treats that they had set out. I was sitting there in the lounge watching this young girl, maybe about 4 or 5 eating the Macadamia nuts they had set out. Normally this isn't an issue because who doesn't love Macadamia nuts.. ;) but this little girl was using the courtesy spoon to take the nuts out of the bowl and eat the nuts from the spoon like she was eating cereal. Parents were obvlious to this and didn't seem to mind. Needless to say I didn't eat any more Macadamia nuts during that trip :( :( Incidentally the Polynesian staff did do nice things for us when they knew it was our honeymoon, when we checked into our lagoon room view the first night the curtains were open to a view of Cinderella's Castle and there were all sorts of goodies on the little table in front of the window, including a bottle of champagne. It was really a nice set up. We ended up joining the DVC the following year and have yet to return to the Poly for anything more than a day visit, but hope to again some day. Maybe for an anniversary. Hopefully the Macadamia nuts will be OK to eat then :) :) :)

Oh my God, Disney-Kim, that's awful about those baby ducks and those cretin kids! Had I seen that, I would have been all over those kids, the heck with their mothers.

One of the nicest memories my daughter and I had earlier this month, was seeing the baby ducks at the Grand Floridian. We brought the bread out from our 1900 Park Faire dinner and fed the ducks. Great way to relax after dinner.
