Well, here's sort of an update.

If you'll remember, he doesnt like holidays, thinks of them as any other day etc.

Well Monday the girls and I went and got our tree, a friend of mine with a truck was going to deliver it here for me. Yesterday the tree came. I cut the bottom off dragged it up the 2 flights of stairs, and then figured there was no way I could hold it straight and screw in the bolts...hmmm what to do what to do....

So I sent him a text "can u stop on ur way home n help me with the tree"

He called said he'd be here in about an hour. I was a bit worried...not sure how he'd react to me asking....but anyway

He came, put the tree up, ran home and got wire to attach it to the wall, came back did that, etc.

Now, this was the first time the girls have met him...so it was two milestones in one night. I had told the girls he was going to help me, and they had a milliion questions- what does he do for work etc... I told them he works in tree's, gave them the whole deal on what he does...DD9 was impressed, so I said he has pictures on his phone I'll show you them when he gets here...I did, and she had more questions for him. "how scary is it to be up in that bucket?" "do you go up there in the rain?" etc. etc.

He was here for about 45 minutes, then went home to shower. The girls asked a couple more questions about him during dinner, and then that was it.

When he came over after they were in bed, he was sort of quiet, so I asked him if anything was wrong....

"no, I'm just glad you asked me to help you, seeing the girls faces when the tree went up made it worth it"

I was just :goodvibes then he says- dont expect me to help take it down though LOL...

He's coming around slowly

Baby steps, my dear. It sounds like he has an interesting job. Not your average Joe. :sunny:

he works for a tree company, thats charged with clearning power lines. Basically- any tree in a power line, he cuts the tree's. Only, he's in 1 of only 3 70 foot buckets....his job is scary- especially on a day like today, he's out on storm damage, and will be out until the storm is over, and all lines are clear...scary stuff to say the least. With the power company- they shut the power off before working, or have 3 inches of rubber covering them, he's in the lines, while they're live, with only rubber on the trucks tires...

My dh works for our local electrical utility (he's a master electrician and builds electrical substations etc) and says nobody in their right mind is cutting trees off of live lines. He thinks this is against OSHA regulations and your boyfriend ought to look into it. That's a risk nobody should be taking.

They're not on the lines, he's clearing them BEFORE they lose power...if they lose power, then obviously the lines are not live...They have poles that are non-conductive if a tree they cut lands on the live wire...they use those to remove the tree. Generally speaking, the wires are live 99% of the time for preventative tree removal, and on days like today, when power is out, and trees are on the lines, well..the powers out.
