Many, many years ago I remember eating a sandwich, I think at one of the restaurants at the Polynesian Resort, called Monte Cristo. I can't remember what it consisted of, but I do remember it was battered and deep fried and I especially remember that I LOVED it!

Does anyone remember what was in it? Or do you know if anywhere (on WDW property or off) serves it? Looking on allears.net I didn't see anything similar to it.

I don't remember it ever being at WDW. I do remember getting a Monte Cristo at Disneyland years ago--sort of a batter-dipped ham-and-cheese sandwich if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure it was the Kona Cafe that served it. I remember getting one there years ago but it looks like it's no longer on the menu.

Bennigans in my area still has them. A friend of mine always gets them when we go there.

Good luck in finding them.

Well, looks like a trip to Bennigan's is in order, since I have no plans to travel to Disneyland for a while (but when I do, I know where I'll be eating). :goodvibes Thanks for the info.

I believe a Monte Cristo is a french toast, deep fried, Ham and Cheese sandwich....they serve them at every Greek owned family restaurant in Chicago.

Many - Many years ago(we're talking mid 1980's), they also served the Monte Cristo at Columbia Harbour House in the Magic Kingdom. That is the first place I had one of these delights.

This was one of my husband's favorite sandwiches. I do remember that he had it at a sit down restaurant just inside MK. It may have been sponsored by Hormel. Is that possible? It was a sandwich with ham(?), swiss and dipped in an egg batter and fried. Probably comes with a side of Lipitor these days! :rotfl2:

I had a Monte Cristo sandwich (for the first time!) at Olivia's Cafe in the Old Key West Resort. It was delicious!

I went to the Bennigan's website to check to make sure it's still on the menu. Not only is it on the menu but the picture at the top of the page of the menu is a Monte Cristo sadnwich. So I guess it's pretty popular.

That is way too funny! :rotfl2:

The sandwich does sound tasty though!

Its funny that this thread is posted.. just yesterday I was reading something online that stated that the popularity of the monte cristo sandwich is due to it being at Blue Bayou in DL.

Gosh, we have several places here (and I live in a small town that's mostly mexican) that serve this meal. When I am feeling like a "good girl" (I really watch what I eat) I will treat myself to one of these. Some places serve jam/jelly with it, some cover it with a cream gravy (because THAT makes it even healthier!!!). It's good, give it a try sometime :teeth:

OMG! Ive never had one but I WANT one! I HAVE to know if anyone in WDW has one now..lol

Disneyland has the Monte Cristo at the Blue Bayou and now it is suppose to be available at Cafe Orleans in DL.

Yes, the sandwich is available at the Blue Bayou still and at the newly remodeled Cafe Orleans as well. We just had one at Cafe Orleans Sunday (after riding the new updated Johnny Depp version of Pirates of the Caribbean). Cafe Orleans also has a new yummy three-cheese version of the Monte Cristo in addition to the ham/swiss/turkey original version.

I also remember the sandwich at the CHH in MK a loooonnnnggg time ago. Too bad they don't still have it. We had one at DLR two years ago and it was every bit as good as I remembered. On a similar post a couple of weeks ago someone mentioned that the Bennigans version is gross. :confused3

The recipe is in Cooking with Mickey and the Disney Chef's cookbook :thumbsup2

I didn't know anyplace at WDW served them but they're a signature item at Bennigans and have been for years.

They are very, um, filling =) Tasty, though! DH and I split one when we go.

I remember having one at Columbia House in 1978 when I was on my honeymoon. I was just telling DD24 that 2 weeks ago as we walked thru the MK. :)
