Well, thanks for all the info. We decided to get one. He is AWESOME. Very loving, soft, cute and MINE.

We have the ugly dog in my siggie(Amos) and the guinea pig(max). I can honestly say that Max is way more loving. DH would probably disagree with me. He loves attention and lets me know when he needs something which is very cute.

Thank you all for the info. One thing I did not realize is how much they eat.

Good Luck with your new piggy! We had one for 7 years before she passed away. I got her because she was born on our wedding day. She was a great pet and loved to snuggle with our cat  I would definately get another one when DS gets a little older.

Best Wishes!

I loved our guinea pig too, he was a sweet, loving little thing too and it was a sad day for our family when he passed.

We waited awhile and then considered getting another one but in the mean time my dh had developed a lot of allergy problems and every time he got near my nephew's guinea pig his sinus' would start to run so we decided against it.

We had our little guy, Buster, for 4 years. He passed away on Christmas Day 2002, and I still miss him terribly. I never would have believed such a little thing could have had such a huge personality.

What a handsome fellow Buster was!

My Peanut turned 7 back in October. He is ancient and has some health problems, but he is still alert, talkative and looking for pats on the head.

I would love to get another when he goes, but I developed severe allergies a year after I got him--I even get hives sometimes.

I would recommend a guinea pig to anyone looking for a pet with personality--they are such sweety pies.

We're on our second guinea pig. They are so sweet. I highly recommend getting one to anybody. I have noticed that females tend to be a little neater with their *business*. The male we have now just does his thing any where he is, where as our female used to use just one corner of her cage. Has anyone else noticed this, or do we just have one who doesn't care?

Peanut is a boy and he used to go everywhere! Now his back legs are stiff so he doesn't move around as much, and I just keep cleaning under him.

I read that if your pig does not select a "bathroom corner" early on, he/she never will. I actually knew someone who trained her pig to use a Frisbee as a potty when running loose in the house. How cool is that?

I have heard you can train them in a litter box too. That is very cool about the frisbee. Mine definately has a corner. I would say this little guy/girl (? not sure) is one of the neatest pets I have ever owned.
