Rem. my work prob. thread, now I'm fired

I'm sorry, this really sucks to be blamed for something you didn't do. Even if it's not on paper.

I remember years ago I was accused of stealing $20 out of my cash drawer (I was bartending at weddings). It was the most ridiculous thing since why in the heck would I steal from my own cash drawer? In addition, at the time my FT job had me in charge of $3 million in wire transfers daily (I was an asst. treasurer) and I told them how was it possible they were accusing me of taking $20 when I work with millions of dollars a day at my regular job and i'm trusted 110%.

I quit soon after that accusation, mostly because I was working every Fri and Sat, but I never did find out who took the money. I know it sure wasn't me though. You can always try and call the HR department and ask what they have down as your termination reason??

I'm good and riled up and pissed off for you. You are a lovely lady, you deserve better treatment than that for sure. In the management consulting world, we call moves like that ... firing everyone because you're too lazy to identify a culprit ... the "hammer throw of legality" because let's face it, you're inviting a lawsuit by making such a dumb move. Tiggeroo, enjoy the rest of the summer down there in TR (love the sunshine) and say good riddance to those losers!

I am sorry to hear all of this!

First, this is from the voice of experience here. I have worked in the financial industry before. I am just INCREDULOUS that this situation even exists in the first place!!! I cannot even begin to imagine a place such as this not having a policy where each and every person has their very own drawer to account for, and NOBODY else has access to anyone elses drawer..... PERIOD!!!

The fact that management does not have this type of a set-up makes me wonder if THEY (somebody in mid-management or even upper management) are the ones taking advantage of it???? I mean, seriously, the temporary help gets fired, just before going back to their regular job anyhow, blamed for stealing... That is the PERFECT scenario. There is NO excuse for anybody having access to anyone elses cash drawer in this type of job. NO EXCUSE whatsoever. Having worked in finance before, I could not ever imagine anything otherwise.

Also, the manager you mentioned seemed to be VERY quick to appease you and say "now, I don't think you did it....." It is like, just go quietly now....

Hhhhhmmmm???????

I could NOT imagine being accused of stealing and actually FIRED with one little phone call !!!! If it were any more than a few weeks at a temp job that you were leaving anyhow, I would show up, demand to see TOP management, and demand to know what so called 'evidence' they had. I would also want them to have to attempt to justify their actions. Theft is a CRIME that you have been supposedly fired for....

The whole thing smells VERY rotten.

you're inviting a lawsuit by making such a dumb move.
I've already contacted an attorney. The problem is that it's just a low paying summer job so it's not worth it so much to a lawyer to take on.I would love to find out for sure who else got let go and talk to them. But let's be for real here. Like Hillbeans in my real life I handle a great deal of money. I am in charge of a large booster club and do a great deal of fund raising for them. If I wanted to I could take money much easier this way. Unfortunately this is one of the businesses I would work with for this fundraising. I also do event planning which would give me another opportunity to take money. It's been nearly 2 weeks and I haven't even cashed my last paycheck. If I was desperate for the money I would have cashed my check, I think. This is when I envy my dh. I"m anti-union, but he's a union employee and he has so many safe guards in his job.

Just bumping this up...

I wanted to say that NOT cashing your last paycheck could be a double edged sword... They could say that "Hey, why would she need to bother to cash that paycheck when she had all this stolen cash in her pocket?"

I agree that it may not be something that you really should spend a lot of time and effort to pursue. but, GOOD, you have contacted an attorney!!! Because, what if you find out that THEY have decided to pursue actions against YOU... It is better that you are on the record NOW stating that you have been falsely accused.

The thing about stuff like this is it is just SO painfull and frustrating to know that YOU are in the right, and you are suffering when somebody else is in the wrong... and there isn't really a lot you can do about it...

HUGS!!!!!

I called the main office today and stated my case to the office mgr. It was the first she had heard of it and she thought that was odd. She also said that they hadn't asked her to run the tapes. It's possible that they ran them on their own, but she said that normally if they suspect something they have her run the tapes. I wanted her to give me the reason they have listed for the dismissal and she didn't even know I was dismissed. Now I'm suspicious that it was the store or reg. mgr. or someone they care about. And I think they needed somebody to blame. So, again I'm more upset. She said she would put a word in to the owner and try to get him to see me. If not I'm considering sending a letter to the corporate office in Pa.

As unfair as it is, I think I would drop it. You don't want your name in the newspaper. It will blow over, the kids who know you won't believe it if she does badmouth you. I would avoid this place of business. I would write them a letter with your complaints so it is on file.

Okay,

so now the Office Manager does not even know that there is an alleged theft, has not been asked to run any tapes or review any paperwork or information... and she did not even know that you were 'fired'.

Yeah right... they really are cracking down on this alleged criminal!!! LOL!!!

I would do everything possible to Cover-Your-Assets... and then hopefully just leave it at that...

Good Luck!!

:D

I am very sorry for your troubles.

I had a niece that was a cashier at a popular toy store and she was fired because her drawer was always short. Some 6 months later after they investigated it further, they found out that it was a manager (the one that fired her) that was stealing the money and they wanted her to come back because she was a good hard worker. She didn't thank goodness.

I also worked in the Accounting office at a large chain store and even though we would suspect someone of stealing, we couldn't do anything about it without solid proof. Which usually requiered calling loss prevention in and having the person filmed whenever they were running a register.

Even if you don't pursue this through a lawyer, I would make sure that the company gets to the bottom of it. At least it will give you piece of mind. Good luck.
