New job - it is in Ventura County, Port Hueneme to be exact. Any thoughts on towns, neighborhoods? Thanks!

I will be working at the base but will have telework options so not as worried about being close to base.

Personally, I would not live in Port Hueneme. Although the schools are good--I taught in the district for many years--the town itself is too far away from anything like grocery stores and other shopping. I've lived in Ventura for 20+ years and I much prefer living there. Port Hueneme itself does not have neighborhood grocers if you are living near the base. The homes around there are older

Thanks! Yes, having a grocery nearby is nice - been spoiled in current location in northern Virginia

I agree - Port H. not the greatest neighborhood unfortunately. My kids live in Ventura -- my son works in Santa Barbara and daughter-in-law in Thousand Oaks. It's lovely there - near the beach. They're a bit on the southern side so a bit nearer Port H. Camarillo not so good either - Oxnard has some bad parts and some good. You probably need a local realtor that really knows the region and the schools!

I live in ventura county and love it. Its close enough to say disney and the city, but far enough to not have to live in the traffic. I live in Mission Oaks in Camarillo. Its safe and pretty quiet. Walk my dog at 1 am sometimes and no one is out. Its rather nice, you should look into that area.
