Relocating to Florida........

I dont know if this is the right place to post but I will give it a try

We are considering emigrating from the UK to Orlando/Florida and I was wondering if anyone knows of any discussion boards / web links which might be useful to get hints/tips from folks who have already done this.....any suggestions?

Are you really sure you want to move here?

It's hot. We get hurricanes. We got big spiders, alligators, scorpions, and snakes. We're surrounded on 3 sides by water and we still have water restrictions.

Just kidding.

One thing you might want to think about: If work isn't a factor, you might want to consider moving away from the crowded part of Florida. That's where you find paradise.

Btw, I'm not a UK ex-pat, but I'm one happy NY-Floridian.

Florida is a really big state, even just the Orlando area! Have you narrowed down your search to specific towns you are interested in?

When we started to plan our move from Massachusetts, the first thing I did was decide on the area I would look into. In my case it was 4 counties... Orange, Osceola, Lake and Polk. Then I looked for towns that were no further than an hours drive to Disney. Finally I wanted a place that wasn't a tourist trap. I had lived in Plymouth, MA and fighting the mobs of tourists in the summer up there was not all that much fun.

Once you can list your requirements such as if you need to be near a job, certain schools, etc., I'm sure you'll find numerous people on this board who'll be able to give you some pointers. You can see my town here:
