I just gave each kid an ATM card with an account in their name then set up an automatic transfer of money in each week. Impossible to overdraw, easy to get to and I don't have to think about it. If there is an emergency I just make an instant transfer without having to leave the house.

What type of I.D are they required to show when they use their ATM card? My dd will be 12 and the only I.D. is her school I.D.

I see you are in Louisiana. If the child is in La you might try calling the school or school board and see if there is a way you can pay for the Beta club and Ap classes throught the internet (via debit or credit card). Last year I remember getting a letter from our School Board about paying for lunches, fees ,etc. on line. I was not interested so I threw out the letter and did not pay much attention to the details. I think this may be a better avenue for you to try as I do not think the schools will accept a "debit or credit card" sent in as usually you can only SEND IN cash or check. This way the school things you know will be paid for. Hope I did not confuse you.
