I'm a type of Christian.

I really really admire people who would die for their religion. I think I would but if you think about it, I'm not sure I could. It's just hard.

Just as you may die for say, your family. Those who share a special bond with God or whomever they worship for their religion, would die for them as well. It's the same thing.

No, I meant I don't understand why people would wage war to try to convert others to their religion. I admire people with convictions, but religious war is just stupid, IMO.

Not trying to hijack the thread,but this is what really bugs me.

Some religions have missionairies go solicite to homes to get people to convert.
I understand it's mandatory and your duty to do so,but please accept my polite 'no' as an answer. I don't want you trying to force your way into my home,pleading 'please ma'am you need to be saved!you're going to go to hell!'.
No offense to the Jehovah Witnesses or Mormons,but please don't be pushy. Just accept my beliefs.


OT - But I heard Jehovah Witnesses cannot accept blood transfusions.What if it were needed due to,say,cancer?Would they just let themselves die? Can someone clarify?

I mean, that's fine. You can believe whatever you want, but evolution makes perfect sense to me.
We're still evolving, if you think about it. People are a heck of a lot taller than they were a hundred years ago.

I agree. There is this church in our town (big bad reputation) and they are always sending these young teens out to solicitate members. It's annoying, and I feel really bad for the poor kids. Especially since they so heavily belong to this awful church.

Btw, when I mean awful, I mean awful. The head of the church is/was suspected of murdering is wife. He teaches his sadistic thinking.

Yep, they would let themselves die. There are some religions who don't believe in medicine and think prayer can fix everything and if a sick person isn't cured, then it was God's will.

That might not make sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to me. Just like the theory of a powerful being making everything doesn't make any sense to me.

Well, yeah. The Bible is a book of stories, that explain things.
Like those Native American stories with how the moon got in the sky and stuff.
I believe in many of the principles that the Bible tries to teach. I just don't believe it word for word for word.

Like, when it says we have "dominion" over the Earth.
That's a VERY rough translation. If they translated it as "stewardship," it would make a lot more sense. Because now people interpret it as "oh, we have to chop trees down because the Bible tells us so. We have DOMINION!!"

But you have to remember HOW MANY TIMES the Bible has been translated... things can change. It's like a game of Telephone. It starts as "she sells seashells by the seashore" and ends up as "my sandwich has a purple banana."

I do agree that it is a rough translation, but I think people are taking that translation into their own hands.

I asked my bible teacher about the translations of the bible, but all she said was, people who translated this were very determined in their jobs...that never really answered my question.

At the Columbine shootings, there was this girl and they asked her if she believed in God and she said yes and they shot her. So sad.

OT - but did you hear about the teen who died because her parents refused medical services. I think she had some kind of side effect from diabetes and the parents thought a prayer would save her. she ended up dead.
