Does anyone have any suggestions? For such a small stupid bone to be broken, this is KILLING me. I've been through breaks, crushes and dislocations before, and none of that hurt as bad as this. It's my pinkie toe for goodness sake. I can't understand why its hurting this bad. I went to emergency care Friday night right after it happened, they taped it and sent me on my way with crutches, a post op shoe and orders to stay off, elevate, ice and high ib profin. I've done all of the above, no relief. I have to go see podiatry tomorrow morning per the emergency care doctor... don't understand why but maybe they can do something. I just don't get it, its not like it is my arm or something, feet take abuse all day...

Those hurt, but really all you can do it, tape, ice, elevation and pain relievers. I don't even go to the doctor when I break mine ( and I have broken them a couple of times)

All the doctor will do is tape it to the next toe.........ice, elevation. as PP have stated. Wearing Crocs might help as its hard to wear shoes. Hope you feel better soon. :goodvibes

I feel your pain. I really hurt my toe yesterday. It's all black and blue, not sure if it is broken, might just be bruised. Not in the mood to go to the ER if they are just going to tape it up. I've been taking advil. I'll probably spend the afternoon icing it and keeping it elevated.

I feel your pain (literally). For such a little thing, it can sure have a huge impact. And I hate to say it, but when I broke my little toe, it affected what shoes I can wear.

agnes!

I banged my pinky toe by lifting my leg over a gate that I had up for the kids. I hit the wall so hard I thought I was going to see stars. I never went to the doctor. I just rested it. Every rain storm it would really ache. Then I had to have surgery for something else and was off my feet for 6-8 weeks. My foot is completely better. So my suggestion is try to stay off of it as much as you can and rest it.

I feel for you. That pain ranks right up there with a toothache and childbirth...:rotfl: Worst pain ever!! I broke a pinky toe two years ago. I kicked a shopping cart while wearing flip flops. You cannot imagine the will power it takes not to scream curses in Walmart! Ofcourse, then I couldn't wear shoes comfortably.

Did you know that it was a rule of the universe that if you have any sore body part you will continually hit it on things?

I must have kicked 5 shopping carts with that toe before it healed....haven't kicked one before or since.

I broke mine.. and dislocated it. i had to have surgery on mine because it was so badly broken.. it never healed and i broke in the same place again 2 years later..

ice and elevation!

I broke mine while running in the house. I played softball on it and went to disney on it I arrived home and went to the orthopedic and I literally had a piece of bone just floating around. I iced it, didn't wear anything but flip flops, and kept it elevated when watching tv.

Ouch! I broke mine in WDW-my then 2 year old son went to stand on a chair on our 5th floor balcony and I jumped up to grab him and slammed my foot into the balcony railing.
OMG did it hurt-I wore flip flops because I couldn't put any other shoe on without it killing, but I would take it off and walk barefoot as much as I could(yes I know you're not supposed to be barefoot in WDW) because that was the only way it felt okay.

Broke mine a couple of years ago running in the house ( yeah, yeah I've told the kids not to do this). I hit the door jam with it. When I looked down the pinkie toe was pointing out to the side. I sat down and popped it back into place. There wasn't really much the doctor could do. Luckily it was summer and I could wear flip flops but for about 6 weeks it hurt .

I didn't pay too much attention to this thread, until it just hit me that I might have an answer/solution to the pain, what is causing it.

When I broke my toe, yes, they wrapped it...

You know what... wrapping can possibly put pressures on the toe that can be painful. When I re-wrapped it, I think it got it a little tight... and that caused it to hurt MORE!!!!

I gave up the wrapping, just wore that post-op shoe religiously, every waking hour... and it was SO much better! ;)

I swear, before long, I think I could have walked Disney as long as my foot was in that immobilization post-op shoe.

Me either, and I've broken 8 toes. The only one I ever went to the doctor with was when I broke my big toe--and that one also involved a bone in the top of my foot. Still, they didn't need to cast it, just put me in a sturdy shoe and told me to take it easy. It takes a week or two for a two to heal. About all you can do is ice, elevate, and rest. When it stops looking like a big purple hot dog, you'll know it's getting better.:thumbsup2

Broke my pinky toe last year...I agree with everyone else, ice, advil and rest. I had to buy a new pair of shoes that were wide at the toe. I wore only those shoes for months. My doc didn't wrap it or anything.

I broke my pinky toe about 12 years ago. I was walking out of the bathroom in the dark and I accidentally kicked the doorway. It hurt so bad! I was screaming in pain and my DH had to help me back to bed and get ice for it right away. I went to the doctor the next day but she didn't want to x-ray it since I was 7 months pregnant (hence the reason I was in the bathroom in the middle of the night!). She said it was most likely broken and she taped it up and sent me home. Because of the pregnancy, I couldn't have anything stronger than Tylenol so I just toughed it out. I took a pair of slippers to work and changed into them as soon as I got there. I must have been a sight waddling around pregnant in my slippers! It did eventually get better! By the way, the baby was a boy and he's now 11 years old and standing at the counter eating candy!:)

I broke my pinky toe about 15 yrs ago & I thought I was going to vomit from the intense pain. My Dr came to the house & really couldn't do anything then tell me to stay off it, elevate it, ice & pain meds.
4 days later we on our way to Disney & it still hurt to walk on it so in a wheel chair I went.

Feel better soon

Broke my pinky toe last month. Take the tape off! It really isn't doing anything anyway. Ice it and if you can take Excedrins. If you can get it into a shoe that ties wear those. I found that the closer th fit of the shoe the better it felt. If I wore crocs and my toes were un confined it hurt like hell. Wear the shoes CONSTANTLY except when icing

Ugh!!! This happened to me a few years ago. I'm not 100% sure that I broke it because I never went to the ER, but it HURT! I didn't have crutches so I just hobbled around for a while. Ice and elevation is really all you can do. My toe hurt occassionally for months after but that's probably because I wasn't smart enough to stay off it when I broke it  Then a few months later I caught the toe on the edge of a table, then again on the strap of my backpack...I swear it's crooked now :rotfl:

That's EXACTLY what happened to me, except we had the gate up for a puppy, not for kids :rotfl: A lot of swearing happened when I banged my toe on that stupid gate :rolleyes1
