In the beginning stages of planning my next trip to WDW! Haven't been since 2016 (back when they used to give you complimentary MagicBands ) and I definitely got rid of my original one thinking that it wouldn’t have much use after my trip. Looking at the prices for a MagicBand on ShopDisney and I cannot justify buying a new one for $40+.

Where is a good, reliable place to order used/discounted MagicBands?

Be aware that you cannot use a Magicband that has been linked to someone else's account. So you cannot buy a "used" one and link it to your account.

With that said, I see a ton of new, unlinked Magicbands for sale on eBay for less than $40.

Thank you!!

Be careful buying a Magicband on eBay. It’s impossible to really know if the band has been linked to an account before getting it. A used band will do you no good. The band must have NEVER been linked to an account so it can be linked to you. The easiest thing would be picking up a card either at your Disney hotel or at a ticket booth to use if you don’t wish to use your phone.

I agree. I'd buy a lanyard with a card holder and get a ticket card rather than take a chance on a MB from Ebay. Years ago, before MB existed, we kept our tickets in lanyards, and they were very convenient - the ticket would scan through the plastic, so we didn't have to take them out, just hold the card holder to the Mickey and place our finger.

I have had good luck on eBay, you do have to read the seller's description of the band. Make sure it is unlinked and new. Also, look to see what their return policy is and what their rating is. If no or only a few ratings, you may want to move on. I've bought a few MB's on eBay and have had zero issues. I was not necessarily looking to save money, I was looking for a specific design that was no longer made.

When you book you could not sure if you still can buy discounted Magic bands including just plain color ones.
From what I saw this trip we were in minority with Magic bands and ours are from past trips when they were included which we have a collection of. Seems most are using the free cards or maybe their phones.

Yeah, my first thought is that you'd have nothing to go off of besides blind trust that it's never been linked to an account..,

I know you can get RFID reader/writers pretty cheap on Amazon that can reprogram many RFID devices; apparently it's pretty easy to reprogram the kyber crystals to change the color of Savi's Workshop lightsabers and/or the voice for holocrons. Part of me wonders if you could reprogram a magic band in a similar way. It probably wouldn't help with the magic band+ (which has both an RFID and bluetooth component), but it seems like you could theoretically change the RFID code of a magic band. You'd probably have to change it to a known code, i.e. changing a new band to the code of an old band already linked to your account that broke, or potentially changing a band to the code from a card (seems like that might work).

These are the kinds of random thoughts that engineers have 🤷‍♂️...
