So we all know how our Fastpasses work... at the 60 Day mark from your resort stay, you can book your Fastpasses for your entire stay. Therefore, does Disney hold back on releasing some fastpasses for each day? Confused? I'm not sure how to explain this, but here's an example: I'll use FoP as an example.

Let's say today is my 60-day mark for Fastpasses and I'm looking to get a FoP passage. Being that there might be up to ten days of previously booked and arrived guests who might be looking for the same FP around the same time, I'd think that the chances of getting a FP is slim. Thinking about this, does WDW hold back a certain number of Fastpasses for days and release them little by little each day, so people who's FP window just opened have an opportunity to snag a FP?

Hopefully that makes sense!

No. I don't think so. Booking a longer trip and adding extra park days will benefit you when it comes to booking popular rides like FOP.

It benefits Disney too.

No. You are exactly correct, the chances of getting a FP for FoP are always slim because people whose trip started before yours are already booking them for the time that you are there.

Being that there might be up to ten days of previously booked and arrived guests who might be looking for the same FP around the same time,

Just FYI, guests with a 60 day FP booking window can book the entire length of stay for as many days as they have tickets for, up to 14 days. The +10 day window applies to dining reservations, not FPs.

But to echo the PPs, no, Disney does not add in more FPs each day. When you get to your 60 day window, many others with trips before you that overlap with your date will have already booked.

BUT, the only practical constraint this poses at the moment is for FOP, and to a lesser degree 7DMT. Most, if not all other rides are going to have plenty of availability to pick from so it's not something to really worry about. (that last comment is a bit dependent on time of year, major holidays, length of your trip, etc)

There's nothing showing to believe Disney holds any FP's. If they did then those off site and AP holders would be able to grab FoP at their 30 day mark because then I'm sure Disney would hold some for that too.

They have a certain allotment per ride per day. The only time more are released after the fact is when hours are extended

I don't think they hold any back, but if you don't have any luck getting one, pay attention to the park hours changing. We actually did get FPs for FOP, but they were for 5:40 pm and we didn't want that. They later changed the opening time from 9 am to 8 am and released a ton of FPs during that hour time frame. That is one of the best ways I can say to score a hard to get FP.

I’ll go against the grain here and say that Disney most definitely adds more FPs after the 60-day mark.

I haven’t seen it happen exactly as OP describes though. Meaning, I’ve seen nothing added at day 59, 58, 57, etc. They do however, add FPs to the pool, same-day, for some of the more popular attractions in the various parks.

Remember, your same day is somebody else’s day 60, 59, 58, 57 etc...

And remember that certain club level people (who pay extra) can book 6 FP per day at (IIRC) 90 days. I'm sure that's not that many people, but for the first time since FP came out I couldn't get 7DMT, Pan, FOP at exactly the morning time I wanted (for 4 people, mid/late April). It was fine - I was booking at 60+6 - and maybe more people do this exactly at 7am now (so I was less fast at my 60th day).

Its funny: its gotten me thinking for out August trip that we'll go to the park in the afternoon - swim at the resort in the morning instead of rushing to a park (at BC the line for the big slide gets long in the afternoon so the kids prefer a.m. anyway). (Its the morning that FOP etc. weren't available right when I wanted.) DH will be so happy, so while I'd rather not plan my day this way it will work out for us.

Edited to fix incorrect info per posts below - to avoid confusion!

I don't think they intentionally hold back FP so that they can release them later. If you are seeing additional FP pop up it's either:
a) park hours have increased adding more time slots to the day
b) people are changing plans around and dropping FP, thus adding them back into the pool
c) ride staffing has increased which allows for extra throughput

And remember that club level people can book 6 FP per day at (IIRC) 90 days.

To avoid misunderstanding from casual readers, just wanted to point out that CL guests who purchase the current extra FP trial program can book at 90 days, it’s not all CL guests.

No evidence ever since FP+ started that they do this. I've looked more than enough times to say that there have never been a bulk of additional FP added to the pool (without a change to park hours.)
Now, people cancel trips all the time, so it's possible to catch a FP here or there due to a cancelled trip but a bulk drop, no. There are no additional bulk drops without added park hours
And people change same day plans all the time so FP come and go from the pool same day especially, more than here or there in advance. But they don't throw out a bulk of FP that morning for a given ride. We change our plans day off at the parks too often, there's FP out there but not that many that it was from a drop done by Disney

As an AP holder that can only book 30 days out, I wish this were true - but I have never seen any evidence that Disney is holding back FP's and slowly releasing them.
