Relatives Staying as Guests

Goodness yes! My DH and I joke (pretty seriously!) that we own a bed and breakfast instead of a home and threaten to put out a sign-in book at our "registration desk".

We have the first grandchildren of the family (3 year old b/g twins) and both of our families live far away. Needless to say, they drop in constantly to the point that we have to keep a calendar of who is coming when so our guestroom isn't overbooked!

No, thank goodness! We will never do that to our relatives ever again, etiher. We will always get a hotel, no if's ands, or buts about it!!

Too many people, even in a 4,000 sq ft house(my sister in laws), the walls start to move in on you.

The only 2 relatives that stay for any length of time are my mom and one of my brothers. My mom stays because she's here to spend time with DD and her going to a hotel wouldn't be practical. She's such as easy guest and does so much while she's here that we love having her. By brother stays because he used to work/live not far from us and we're a good home base while he's visiting his friends. He's a really easy guest as well and is so good with DD that we love having him here also.

I only let people stay that I don't have to wait on and who don't make me feel anxious if there's a little dust on the furniture or crumbs on the floor.

My MIL and FIL are coming to stay for a week in October. This will be their first trip to Texas, and our house. We normally go visit them in Arizona. I am very nervous because I want everything to be just right. My sister and her four children come down to stay all the time, and I enjoy all the hustle and bustle.

...and the next group arrives on Thursday!!

That's what happens when you live where people come to vacation...

And we love it.
Summer just wouldn't be the same without friends and family, barbques, swimming, laughing and song...

Come visit!!!
100,000 Cape Breton welcomes await you!!

My BIL and SIL just left an hour ago to go back to Nova Scotia. Everyone likes to come to P.E.I. but usually only stay the weekend so that is great. Niece, her 2 sons and 2 friends dropped in yesterday for a few hours on their way to camp. Will likely stay Tuesday night before heading back to N.S. Our company from away are usually really easy. I just point to the fridge and the clean towels and tell them to help themselves.

Not really. We don't live close to any really great tourist-y area or anything, and most of our family lives around here.

My 2 SILs, who are out-of-towners, usually stay with my other SIL, who lives in town. The one from Florida I wouldn't mind having stay here, but the other will never stay in my house as long as I am alive.

no we dont and I will also never stay with relatives on a trip of any sort...I will stay in a hotel, much more comfortable for everyone involved!

No and thank goodness.

I can give great directions to the Holiday Inn.

If my realtives stayed here, I would need an all inclusive vacation after each visit. Let's face it, I don't have that much vacation time. :earseek:

Hee - my guest bed is in the basement - unfinished - so guests have incentive to find a hotel.

This topic makes my SKIN crawl!! Plus I have a burr in my saddle to boot!!! In early April my mother "gave" my guest room to my BIL's parents--who are from Holland! She failed to tell me of the arrangement until about 2 weeks before they came and then told me they were staying for THREE WEEKS!!!!!!!!!! These people expected to be waited on (by myself and my mother--NOT their son) hand and foot. My BIL and sister live (literally) two blocks from me. But they couldn't stay THERE because my BIL and sister have 3 huge dogs and they didn't want to have to clean up the "dog room" for them. Yes, you read that right--the dogs have their own room so I am inconvenienced for 3 weeks with cranky people from Holland who don't like America or Americans. They had to comment daily on how rich America is, yet we have "dirty gutters". I could vent FOREVER about this, but I won't bore you any more.

Suffice it to say that joshsmom's hotel is now CLOSED and will only be opened for select few whom I invite!!

I don't think any relatives have ever stayed with us in our current home of nearly 20 years. Our family is more the hotel staying kind. Other than friends of DDs, I don't think anyone has ever spent the night here.

You never know how many "relatives" you have until you buy a beach house!!!

MIL came to stay unanounced for two months right after we got married. WE ALMOST GOT DIVORCED!
