Planning a trip in late August 2021 for me, hubby & our 7 yr old daughter. Hubby wants to stay at the wilderness. Dilemma is, renting a points for a studio at Copper Creek or booking a standard room?
the price difference would be $450 for 6 nights.

Renting points can be a crapshoot. If you do, I would seek a private owner from the Rent/Trade Board rather than dealing with any of the brokers. Brokers are not being seen in a favorable light following their behavior during this shutdown. Look for an owner that offers you some flexibility with their rental terms in the event that another closure occurs. I will also point out that CCV studios are difficult for owners to book because there are so few of them and a lot of owners who don’t have enough points for anything but studios. Even if you put in a request with a broker, you may have a long wait for a reservation (if it ever comes to fruition). On a positive note, August is not typically a busy DVC month and you should be able to find something. You may want to consider BRV (the original Villas at Wilderness Lodge). Same great location, just a separate building from CCV.

The big downside we have with most of the studios is that they only have 1 real bed. Since you only have one young child I think it will be perfectly fine. We have 2 DD's and they did not like it after awhile and I ended up sleeping on it for a couple of days and that is about all I could have taken.

I don't mean to imply that $450 isn't a significant amount of money, but I wouldn't rent the studio if that is all I would be saving. The cancelation restrictions wouldn't make it worthwhile to me right now. I have done quite a few rentals, but won't be doing any until the possibilities of closures and other issues from Covid are over.
Edited to add that even though August of 2021 seems far away, you would probably need to book the studio this September. I don't think we will know how this virus situation is going to play out by then.

The villas at CCV are beautiful. That being said, it really depends on how comfortable you think your DD7 will be on a pull-out and how comfortable you are with the terms and conditions of renting points. We stayed in studios a few times when DS12 was younger and, at 7 years old, he seemed to be fine on the pull-outs - now, not so much. I, personally, have never been comfortable renting points (always book villas through WDW with cash) and, given what has happened with the closures and the debacle of trying to get refunds, rescheduling trips, etc., there is no way I would risk it. Anyone who booked through WDW (and not by using or renting DVC points) had a much, much easier time getting refunds or rescheduling.

Thank you for everyone’s comments! I think the standard wilderness room will be our choice. The cancellation policy and the ability to make payments towards the balance is a big plus. And I didn’t think about the bed situation. I’m sure dd would prefer a queen bed over a pull out.
And hoping for free dining, but not holding my breath.

I think you will be happy with your decision. Like everyone else, I'm hoping for a return to "normal", but we have no idea when that will be. This way, you can change, or even cancel your reservation if needed.
I love WL...have a wonderful trip.

I had a studio booked for this June. When j rescheduled my trip, I opted for a regular room instead. I think you made the right choice!

I think you are making a good choice in booking a regular room. We rented points for a Poly stay this summer, and thankfully our renter let us cancel and get a refund, but one thing I learned through all of this is I’m never renting points again. I’ve successfully rented twice before, but with the mess I see so many renters in, some losing a lot of money, it’s a chance I’m no longer willing to take. Booking with Disney will allow you more flexibility in the event you need to cancel or reschedule.

We rented points once before and everything went smooth. But like everyone has said, having the option to cancel or change the reservation is something we definitely want to be able to do. Thanks everyone!
