I was wondering if anyone takes a point and shoot camera anymore? My DH is telling me my phone (6s iPhone) has a better camera so I don't need to take my 3 year old Cannon. Thoughts?

I always do, but I take a lot of pictures. Also, the camera on my phone isn't great.

This was the first trip that didn't take my camera and it was fine for me

Some people take their regular camera to conserve the battery in their phone.

Some people take their regular camera because they almost always do better than a cell phone camera for any shot not taken outside in good lighting.

Compact camera sales have gone down in recent years. For those holding on....
  • camera flash is stronger than what's on the phone.
  • optical zoom is bigger than what's on the phone. Phone offers digital zoom.
  • battery life is a good reason
  • love my DSLR, especially in low light when I can crank up the ISO.

I still bring my camera with me. It's an ultra compact canon that's a little smaller than my phone. It takes amazing pictures and is more natural for me to use for pictures.

I stopped carrying a camera in October when me son's AP included PP. Yesterday, we had a magical moment, no PP, and the only thing I had with me was my cell phone which takes lousy pictures indoors. This was the type of picture that I'd love an 8X10 of. But when I make it larger it gets all pixilated. I'll be back to carrying either a point and shoot or my good camera.

Took my Nikon D3100 last year. Have some amazing shoots of castle, etc. Some days we left it at camper, some days we took it with us. Always carried it when we went walking at the campground, you never know when you might need a good picture.

I prefer the feel of a camera - holding a phone to take a picture feels awkward to me. Also, I love the zoom lens and when I go to Disney, I take a lot of pictures.

I take a camera.....not fond of taking pictures with a phone.
I actually take 2 with me.....a small point and shoot that I take when I am going downtown or just to a restaurant and a bigger, better one for the parks.
I don't mine carrying it.

For quality, nothing beats a "real camera". The past two trips we stopped bringing the DSLR and lenses. Pocket, digital point and shoot for candids
and the rest of our pics were done by Disney photographers.

Your iPhone 6S has a much better camera, YES. Unless you just absolutely want to carry another camera, you definitely don't need anything but the iPhone. Even if you're a professional photographer who has to have a DSLR everywhere, you'll still be pretty pleased with the shots you get on the phone (not to mention the convenience of not carrying around a big ol' camera).

Also, the battery life on the iPhone 6S is excellent. Even if you take a ton of pics, you likely won't need to charge it until the evening.

The iphone 6 has an amazing camera, WAY better than an old point and shoot.

I took my (older) DSLR to Disney and I was amazed that the pictures of MSEP I took were about the same as with the iphone 5 - and the 6 is even better.

After that trip I ditched the DSLR. I got a iphone 6 and used that for a China & Japan trip with absolutely no regrets.

Some point and shoots are better, a few are much better than a new phone (like the s120, G1X, Sony RX100...,)

There are many cheap point and shoots with worse IQ and performance at 1X zoom than a phone.

Of course most PnS have more zoom.
Phones make sharing and editing on the fly much easier.

We also didn't take a camera with us for the first time last september and didn't miss it at all. We had MM and both have new phones that take great pictures. Plus we never print anything bigger than a 4x6 if we print anything at all so that's not important either.

I don't like using my phone camera so I take my point and shoot camera. I try to conserve battery on my phone.

I have a decent point of shoot, and it ended up left in the safe the entire time. The phone won by not being an additional item. I normally take lots of photos, but decided I wanted to enjoy the moment rather than worrying about the perfect photo, so the phone allowed that. I did take heaps during the Festival of Fantasy parade, and they came out really well!

We carry a camera. But then again, we still have flip phones :)

I have yet to see phone-taken photos that rival what our camera produces, and it's not even a DSLR.

In general lighting conditions the iPhone6s camera is going to be as good as most point and shoots and even in indoor situations (dark rides) it's probably going to be on-par with your cheaper point and shoots.

I carry around my Canon 6D while at Disney but only use my iPhone6 at Universal (too many water rides! :) ) I've got an older Canon Elph that I used to use (and still use occasionally) it's got a good zoom on it and and slightly better picture quality for things like landscapes and such but it's only marginally better than my iPhone6 for basic photo taking of friends and family when I'm out and about.
