Hello everyone,
I am wondering when everyone started registering for gifts and such. I and about 1.5 years out from getting married. I thought this would be to early but some of my firends said they registered right after they were engaged (married 2 years and some months later).
I just thought I would ask and see how everyone here is doing it.
Also a question that my mom has come up with. How do you tell people you want gifts sent to home...We have been told it is bad ettiquit to put it in any invitation because they it looks like you are expecting gifts. I just hope everyone is smart ( I know asking a lot of my guests) and realizes that we will not be able to haul everything home on the plane.

We registered about 8 months before our wedding, but we got engaged only 10 months before. I would register earlier vs later, for some things. The registy consultants at the store will guide you on what is good to register for further out (china) vs what to wait on (linens, which change far more often)

On the last newsletter that Disney sends your guests it asks that guests ship gifts to the couple at home so the couple (and the guests) doesn't have to worry about transporting gifts after the wedding.

Generally it is recommended to register 4-6 months out. We found it pretty silly to register that early. We didn't start getting anything until we started having showers and such. Maybe if you're having an engagement party or something. The only thing that was good about doing it so early was not having to do it later, when I was busier. I definitely wouldn't worry about it for a while in your case, but that was just my experience. I will agree that it's bad etiquette to tell people to send gifts to the home. I didn't do a FTW, so I'm agreeing with hmgolden on the "disney tells them to send them to the home" thing. Very cool on Disney's part. Keeps the bride from looking rude!

I'm excited that disney does that. Your right it does keep the bride from looking bad. Disney gets an A+ in my opinon for overuling bridal ettiquite. It isn't the brides fault to mention gifts.... you can blame disney!!! lol

I just registered today and my wedding is June 2007. This is primarily because my mom is throwing us an engagement party with like 60 people so she wanted us to register. My aunt is a bridal manager at bed bath and beyond and she basically said-in terms of the registry cards the rule pretty much is if someone else is throwing PRE wedding events (showers, enagegment parties etc) the cards are ok to stuff in the invites because technically YOU are not telling them about the gifts the host of the party is. I think registry cards in wedding invites is pretty much a no-no and better off done word of mouth 9just because you can't say hey go to this store for my gift doesn't mean your mom, sister or best friend can't!

Anyway good luck and have fun registering...it is your wish list the stuff you wouldn't always buy yourself so have fun with it!

Oh you guys actually print it on the invitation? that is pretty cool! Actually my fiancee's sister lives in winston salem NC..she did mention some things are done differently. I think printing it on the invite is a great idea instead of having all these papers in the envelope!

we registered about 6 months before the wedding. we didn't use the insert cards given to us by foleys / target. We just printed on the shower invitations where we were registered at and that they could also go to our wedding website - registry link.

We didn't advise anyone to mail us gifts...... I'm kinda worried about the whole thing, cuz we now live in Dallas, Tx and the big shower is in Boston, MA. I get an airline discount through FedEx, but I don't want to have to ship all of everything back home. Then I am afraid if there are breakables - taking them with me on the flt back home...... I'm hoping for gift card/ $ more than anything. Just have to wait until next month and see.

Yeah, on shower invites definitely. If it's a printed one, it's in the text, if it's a handwritten one it's written in somewhere on the invite. The little papers are definitely not ok at all here for either the wedding or shower. At my church shower they announced it during church one Sunday...that was kinda funny (no real invites for that, it was just in the church bulletins and announcements)
