Regional Sandwiches

Haven't read the whole thread yet but Runzas are popular here. Mini loaves of bread baked around ground beef and cabbage. Several different flavors, plain, cheese, italian, mushroom&swiss.

I'm originally from Buffalo and miss beef on weck and fried bolony, & royal subs! Not sandwiches but people here never heard of loganberry drink.

My best friend is from Buffalo. The last time DH traveled to Buffalo he brought back some bottled loganberry drink. My DS loved it. Of course, what's not to love, I think it had about 50 grams of sugar.

I'm thinking in the Atlanta area you might see Fried boloney sandwiches alot if you drive out into the countryside. I guess you could call that regional ;)

Here in Memphis I'd guess you'd have to say a pulled pork bbq sandwich topped with cole slaw.

We do fried bologna, but I would say pimento cheese on white bread is our regional sandwich.

I remember making runzas once. Can't remember where that recipe came from but they were delicious.

Central Illinois, Springfield specifically, has the Horseshoe sandwich. It has variations, but is basically a slice of texas toast, with a piece of meat (ham or turkey are common but some folks use hamburger) covered with a pile of french fries and all covered with cheese sauce.

It does sound disgusting, but can be quite heavenly. Should not be eaten very often unless you are just trying to induce a heart attack!

Originally from Binghamton, NY - home of the Spiedie! Marinated chunks of lamb, chicken, venison, pretty much whatever you want to marinate now but used to be just lamb and chicken - then charcoal grilled and served on Italian bread. delicious!! Has it's own Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally every summer - next weekend I think - great hot air balloons, spiedie cooking contests, concerts, etc - great time! :thumbsup2

Dallas, Texas here! Local favorites are chicken fried steak sandwiches on Texas Toast bread, or anything with jalapenos on it! Although, our best food is our TexMex! Yummy!
