I'm from the Chicago area and my favorite sandwich is an Italian Beef
My friend is from Buffalo and she said her favorite is Beef on Weck
I live in Atlanta and you usually don't see either one of these here

I've never heard of Beef on Weck and she had never heard of Italian Beef

It got me thinking about different regional sandwiches. If you have a favorite please tell me the name of the sandwich and where you get it.

By the way, the Beef on Weck sounds wonderful.

I'm thinking in the Atlanta area you might see Fried boloney sandwiches alot if you drive out into the countryside. I guess you could call that regional ;)

Here in Memphis I'd guess you'd have to say a pulled pork bbq sandwich topped with cole slaw.

I've been here since 1983 and I've never seen a fried baloney sandwich. ;) It does sound interesting though

Do you like the food at the Varsity? Or is that too much grease for you?
We have friends in Powder Springs and we love to go there when in town.
Love those chili dawgs!

A bar around the corner from me (Md) serves a fried bologna sandwich. It has grilled onions and cheese on garlic toast--YUMMO!!!

I don't know that we have a sandwich here in the Detroit area, but I know if we did, you would have it with Better Maid potato chips and a Faygo Red Pop! :rotfl:

Here in Philly it is the Philly cheesesteak. I have had them in other places and trust me they are not Philly cheesesteaks. It has to do with the rolls and the meat.

We go to the Varsity Jr by Northpoint every once in awhile. It is greasy but sometimes you just need a fix:lovestruc

In Iowa - the big thing is Maid-Rites, or loose-meat sandwiches. personally, I don't like them but they are one of DH's favorites. Giant breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches are big too - now those I like!

I don't know if it is a regional thing, but I had never heard of a ham BBQ sandwich until I moved to Pittsburgh - http://www.post-gazette.com/food/19990708count.asp They are very popular here for parties.

And I have lived here over 20 years and still have never tried one of those Primanti sandwiches mentioned by Miss PArk Avenue - the idea just doesn't appeal to me.

Taylor ham, egg, and cheese (on a hard roll - egg is fried) is popular here in NJ.

Never heard of either of the first mentioned sandwiches... WHen I moved here to Ga, people were eating tomato sandwiches....yuk. LOL

When I was growing up in Ca, we had mayo and banana sandwiches, but I dont know if that was a regional thing...or a broke thing

Cocoila Sandwiches (pronounced cah cerla)

A Portuguese food made from pulled pork, vinegar, garlic, and whatever else you feel like throwing in. You can buy it at Shaw's, some restaurants, and various festivals around Southcoast Massachusetts.

I also LOVE Linguicia sandwiches.

Here in North Carolina we love some fried boloney...and chicken salad sandwiches!

We have Garbage Plates in Rochester. Not really sandwiches, but it's the closest thing. Even an hour away from Buffalo and the Beef on Wick isn't really the same. I mean, they're tasty, but I had one in Buffalo and they don't even come close to what we have here!

Yes!! There is nothing like a Philly Cheesesteak made IN PHILLY! If you don't have the right roll there is something off about it. Now I won't get into who makes the best one and all that....

Go Phillies!
