I just wanted to let everyone know of the experiances I faced over the weekend after my first shower in NY. I say first b/c we will also be having one in FL where we live. We are regestered at Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond and Disney's honeymoon regestery. We got lots of items from all 3 regesteries over this past weekend. The problem came after everyone left and we were left to figure out how to get all of our items back to Fl when we're only allowed 2 siutcases and 1 carry on.

So we though we'd go speak with the stores and see if there was anything they could do.

Bed, Bath and Beyond was absolutlly wonderful!!!!!!!! I can't stress this enough ladies. They took back all our items from our regestry, and created an order for all the items. They sent the order for some 30 items directly to our house, AND WAVED THE SHIPPING!!!!! so basically we get all our stuff delivered right to our door. Plus they took back items that people had purchased for us that we didn't even regester for, and with out a receit!:woohoo:

Here's where we ran into the problem. TARGET refused todo anything. They wouldn't even let us return the items and get store credit, so that we could repurchase the items at our FL local store. They were rude, and even asked well why would you register for items you would have to travel with? I was shocked and upset. S now I have like 10 large items from steam vacs, to wine coolers stuck in my parents house in NY and have no idea when I'll ever see them again or even get to use them. :guilty:

So I came home and wrote both companies a letter telling of my experiance. I canceled my Target regestry even though I still have a second shower comming up. I didn't want to give them the business or the chance to ess somethng else up.

So anywyas I just wanted to let everyone know incase there might be another Bride out there in the same situation that this info could help.

I agree about Target. We had received one box of 2 dishes from our registry. So I decided to pay for the second box myself. I never opened them because I knew we'd be moving in a few months, and I didn't want to have to pack them up again. Well, wouldn't you know it, when I FINALLY got around to opening them, some were broken! MOST places would take a return or exchange, but because it was more than 90 days past the purchase date, they wouldn't take them back. Now I'm stuck w/ two boxes of dishes I can't use - one of which I paid for myself. :headache:

that REALLY stinks...i've shipped stuff from my parents house in nj and several times we've checked huge boxes (paying the $25 fee is usually cheaper than shipping big things) on the plane ride home.

i'm glad you cancelled your target registry and i hope your letter gets you somewhere. lots of girls on here have had issues with target.

maybe you can go to your target and talk to the store manager. they need to do something about this registry situation...

Get a list of all the items you have. Go to your local store and buy them there. Send your receipts to your parents' house for return. It stinks, but it does work.

You can do the same thing with the dishes. Buy two new sets. Return the broken ones with that receipt.

Normally I don't advocate trying to get around return policies, but Target made my life horrible after adopting two children who came home at significantly different sizes than expected (they changed their return policy mid-adoption and refused to honor the one in affect at the time of purchase). Everyone on my adoption boards avoids Target registries b/c of major problems returning anything.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

I appreciate the info! We are going to register in a couple of weeks, and I don't think we are going to register with Target anymore!

Buying the items down here and sending the reciets back north is a great idea! I think I was just so upset that I couldn't see that solution. Thanks so much!! I will let you all know if it works.

It should work - the only thing I would caution is you might want to pay in cash, then your parents could return for cash. If you pay with a CC, many places require that you swipe the CC to receive the credit when you return it, and obviously your parents wouldn't be swiping your CC. However, that may not be the case at Target, so definitely find out when you pay for your purchases.

I know we are hacking away at Target but... it is all in the experience and the employees. I too registered at Target and have had no problems. I did get two of the same thing (twice) but I was fortunate enough to get gift receipts and the return was quick and easy. I already expected a target gift card but I shop at Target all the time.

I know Bed bath and Beyond went over and beyond expectations but this was something they did as an extra. Just like at Disney vacationers are all expecting to feel some of that awesome magical moments... like Charatcers skipping with their children or winning a dream... Target just did not make anything happen. I am however piffed about their rudeness about the situation. These were items bought at the store... the least they could have done was maybe direct them to a shipping source nearby. It was rude what they said about having a shower and not being able to travel with the gifts.

I hope things work out in the end. It is these cases that teach us to remember to ask for gift receipts for other weddings and parties we are going to and if we are buying from the registry to bring the bar code so that we dont get two of the same item.

Actually, this is standard procedure for BB&B. I asked about it when we registered, because we currently live in one state and our wedding (and one shower) are in another, and was told this was exactly what they would do. BB&B also lets you use your registry printout as a gift receipt, so you don't have to worry about your guests remembering to get one for you.

Also, about the buy-it-again & return w/new receipt thing - Target will only accept a certain dollar amount of returns per person, per year, so if you're going to do this, make sure to do it on several receipts, and have several different people do the returns to get around it. Target has REALLY bad return policies in general, so be prepared to deal with a headache.
