If we wanted to do Xcaret or Playa del Carmen on our own does anybody know if there is regularly scheduled ferry service from the Dock in Cozumel to Playa del Carmen.

Once in Playa del Carmen are there local buses for sightseeing.

Anyone know how long/far a bus ride it is from Playa del Carmen to Cancun Hotel District?

Any info would be great. Thanks.

We stayed in Playa del Carmen a few years ago and took the ferry over to Cozumel for the day. I believe they had two ferry's that made trips back and forth all through out the day. So you should have no problem going on your own. We are also taking the new western caribbean cruise but not till Feb 2003. Our DD will be almost 5 then but DCL is strict on the ages of children in regards to the excursions to Stingray City. 6 and over!!!!!!!!!!!!! So we are also going to set up our own excursion so that she is able to go. I have found several companys on the Grand Cayman tourism sight that we can use and they will even pick us up at the dock and bring us back. It is nice too know that you have other options than what DCL has available. You will have a great time.
Cancun is a little over an hour from Playa del Carmen.

We thought about doing Xcaret on our own also. From reading, I have found that there is a ferry from Cozumel over to Playa, round trip cost around fifteen dollars. From there you have to take a bus to Xcaret, or taxi, or rent a car. It started to seem too complicated, so I didn't pursue it. We thought we would just take Disney's excursion over to to Xcaret. We are doing our own excursions in the Caymans though. Any one have better info on Xcaret?
