I think it was a popular destination for Disboard people because on the dining plan it counted as a quick service, not a table service. So, getting a steak and desert and side and a bottle of water or juice to go because you had a refillable mug was a great deal.

I never thought the food was that good when I stayed there for a convention, and they consistently got my food order wrong so I had to have it remade and eat by myself after everyone else had finished. I know they prepare it in front of you but they don't write anything down with special orders.

Sounds like you had a miserable time.

I think you are probably right about the dining plan.

The dark side to that is that if you are eating crap because because it's "free"....how much of a deal are you actually getting.

We've talked about Disney closing loophole after loophole and while this might not have fit the exact definition....it's certainly been "fixed" to the point of being BAD.

I haven't listened to the review yet but I'm very curious. We hate the place. Last time we were there we all agreed. It was both the worst and the most expensive meal we had our entire two week visit. I totally don't get the appeal. We would never go back.

We haven't been there for a few years, but in the past we've alway enjoyed it. They used to have a ton of choices and the food was pretty good. I wanted to try the buffet on the last trip but we never made it there. I did hear they were turning the dinner into a buffet also. Although it's not excusable, I wonder if that's the reason that dinner was not so great.
I hope they improve. It used to be a great place.

Thumbs down on Pepper Market...and not just because they charge you a fee to eat there, though that is part of it.

Hmm...

Yeah, it used to be one of the best kept secrets on property that it was a great (and cheap) place to get a fairly decent steak. (On or off the dining plan)

But, I guess those days are gone.

Sad.

Never ate there. I was put off by the fee they charge in essentially a food court. Yes, I understand the "servers" bring you a drink and keep the tables clean. Sorry, that's not worth a mandatory service charge.

I have to wonder if this is what is impacting the sit down restaurants. I went to two usually busy restaurants. Rose & Crown and the 50's Prime time.

Rose & Crown was allowing walk ups and We came in at 6. We noticed how empty the restaurant was. They changed the menu to more standard and limited fare gone was the bangers and Mash. We were there until 7:40 and it picked up slightly but the park was very crowded but you couldn't tell from the restaurant. Sunshine seasons was packed.

We did go to 50's prime time. We went earlier around 4:50 and it was empty save a few early diners like us. And it picked up more as time wore on but not to the packed lounge that it usually is.

I also am trying to get my mother to go but she stated that the places are too dirty and the food is not very good.

I think the table service restaurants are feeling the economic pinch. People may still be able to afford Disney, but maybe their budget can't quite stretch enough to eat in sit-down restaurants every night. They may opt for one special sit down restaurant per visit.

More people may be staying in the value resorts, so maybe they settle for the quick service dining plan. And, if it's free dining time, they are only allowed quick service.

I don't think it is just TS feeling the pinch. We use to eat at Crystal Palace every trip because we loved the food and the atmosphere. The last time we ate there, my wife happened to see the bill and was shocked. She had no idea how expensive it had gotten. We haven't been back since. Little by little, Disney is pricing themselves out of contention. We eat breakfast in our condo, eat CS lunch in the park on our park days and offsite on our non-park days and usually eat dinner offsite most days. We carry in snacks and only buy a few Disney favorites (Dole Whip, Mickey bars) and we drink tap water. I can't imagine paying Disney prices for all food and drink. We'd go broke.

Disneysteve,

You just described my next Disney vacation! We will have to be more frugal, but we will at least be in WDW. Eating breakfast in the hotel room (Pop Century now has mini-fridges), packing our own snacks, and I think I may even ship bottled water to the hotel as well. Staples will do that for you! LOL Then all you need is a bottle of Mio and you're set!

It's too bad...We haven't to the Pepper Market since August of 2010. The choices were pretty good. It's a shame if it is really as bad as it was review by John and Kevin. The food has gotten expensive. Not that I don't mind spending it when we're down there, but it is expensive. We found the best thing to do is go to the Publix on I 4 and buy some milk and cereal and have breakfast in the room every morning. I also agree with bringing in small snacks to hold yourself over.

were heading back to CSR in a few days. I'll give you my opinion on the Pepper Market when we return.

My mom just got back from a stay at Coronado and she said she couldn't believe how bad the food there was.

We eat all meals in our room now. We go to Whole Foods before we arrive, pick up a week's worth of groceries and we're all set. I can't handle most restaurants (even outside of Disney) anymore: too loud, bad service, marginal food in far too many of them.
