We've been watching youtube videos and can't make out whether there are any drops in it... For those of you that have been on it, are there any drops? Like roller coaster style drops? Either forward or backward??

Thank you in advance!!

Not large ones , but yes.It is a Roller Coaster in the dark with added special effects

It starts out as a dark ride. Then speeds you up...suddenly stops. Rolls you backwards down a drop of about 5-10 feet. Launches you up a lift and into a series of drops and twists. There is another drop which is a larger drop than the initial launch. It's not huge though. I say comparable to Space Mountain.

Excellent, thank you!!! That's exactly what I needed to know!! :)

There are drops and great special effects. It is much smoother than Space Mountain & in my opinion, more fun.

There are some drops but they are not like the hills of space mountain. The mummy also doesn't make me sick or queasy like I get after space mountain.

The drop is 39 feet and feels a lot less than that. My fiance is terrified of drops and this is her favorite ride next to FJ. My opinion, this ride is far better than Space Mountain and smoother.

I am NOT a fan of roller coasters. That being said, I got in line for this ride soon after it was opened, not knowing what to expect. When I realized it was a dark coaster, I was a little nervous, but was talked into staying for the ride. Frankly, it wasn't at all a bad experience. It's no worse than Big Thunder Railroad which I go on all the time, and way better than Space Mountain which I don't like at all. The drops aren't stomach-churning steep, more of a drop and turn. There's a backward drop, again, not too intense. The visuals are great. I say, go for it!

IMHO space mountain throws you around more than the Mummy, which is a ride based on fleeing the beastie. You are threatened (visuals at the beginning) then you get the %@!* out of there. The latter part goes by so fast you are at the end before you know it. Good intense coaster ride but not any major drops. Do try to keep your eyes open when the coaster part begins.

Definitely one of the best attractions I've ever attended, the hands down favorite of our group back in 2009. Can't stand the wait to get back there this year!

Thank you so much for asking about this, Celine! This has been my biggest concern (and fear) where the Mummy is concerned ... The drops, Dear Lord, the drops! We all walked out of the Mummy line last August for fear of the unknown. I know, I know ... Major Ride Wimps! ;)

Since last August, I have conquered my fear of Space Mountain and rode it three times (in a row!) last month. My back was singing, but it was great!

I feel that after finally riding Space Mountain (and from what I've read on this thread), the Mummy should be no problem the next time around. Fingers crossed. ;)

Thrilling ride that starts out as a dark ride, the coaster part is short but sweet. It's nowhere near as intense as the other major coasters at Universl, but super fun,I have it as one of the top 2-3 overall rides at any park in Orlando.

Space Mountain is such a painful ride. They really need to do the same rehab that they did to Space Mountain in DL and completely redo the track.

You will have no issue with Mummy if you can do Space Mountain.

Space Mountain really is a painful ride. My back, my neck, even my head. I mean, it was fun and I'm glad I conquered my fear ... but OUCH! There is a thread on the Theme Parks & Attractions board about the "roughness" of Space Mountain. Some people want a refurb and a smoother ride and the other half are "purists" who don't want Space Mountain messed with.

Anyway, I am looking forward to The Mummy now!

Space Mountain is an older ride but I would never consider it rough,a little rickety maybe but never painfully rough. You want some really rough rides here's a list.
1.Gwazi at Busch Gardens before they switched to the Millenium Flyer trains, that ride was so rough I have no idea how I didn't break a rib on it,after they switched the trains it was great, wood coaster rough but nothing too insane.
2.Manhattan Express in New York,New York casino. So rough and what hurts even more is paying $12 for 1 painful ride. This coasters manufacturer was a Japanese company called TOGO that luckily is out of business, many of their coasters were known as "TOGO Death Machines",no reason to ask why.
3.Kong at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo California, only been to that park once, rode Kong once which I realized was once too many

Trust me Space Mountain is at max a little rickety, nowhere close to a really rough ride!!Call me a purist because I love Space Mountain the way it is.

I haven't been yet ( we are going next week  ), but we have been watching youtube videos offf all the USO/IOA rides and I did find this one (it's from the mummy ride in cal). It has a bit on the backstage tour, then has the ride w/ the lights on first and then lights off. I'm a ride chicken and was debating this till I say it with the lights on and now am planning on giving it a try.

here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImohQxWJd-E

The only drop that gets you is the first one where you go backwards. Other than that, it's fine. I'm a roller coaster whimp but quite liked this after I got over the fact that I was tricked onto it as a moving theatre ride :rotfl2:
