?? Regarding sharing at TS

I think people should be allowed to share an entree or order app/desert without being charged a seating fee. For the most part, the adult sized entrees are way too much food to reasonably be consumed in one sitting.

And they may be doing just that. Cleaning it up by charging those guests that aren't ordering.

I don't see the problem. I'll be glad if they do something like this.

I do not see them doing anything about BOG breakfast or lunch. That place is massive, and Disney unless Diseny decides to capitalize on that audieance that wants a PPO breakfast and is willing to actually pay for it, I bet they leave it be.

Dinner, I think is different. Most Disney restaurants don't seem to care if folks Oder full meals or not, and I am glad of that, but there are a few that I think get abused. BOG maybe, although I do not see too many posts asking if they can just have dessert and coffee, and CG. That place does nto turn tabes once it gets near to Wishes times, and for a signature restaurant, where servers are limited aleady with table numbers, that can be a heft price to pay.

If this is happening, you should be told about it when you make the reservation. I'd like to be able to see the original Facebook post to determine if there were any other circumstances involved with that particular guest's visit. And it's quite funny because 50's Prime Time has the Mom's Favorite Recipes ($23) which is perfect for my husband and I to share because he likes half the stuff, I like the other half. It's not like we are a party of ten and only one person is not eating but just sitting there. So, I think this Facebook post would be interesting to see as it was posted.
The original post was someone asks my if they could share a meal at BOG, several people commented yes, perfectly ok to share at TS restaurants including BOG, then this happened

California Grill is another one of those places that patrons can abuse. How often do we see threads about whether or not folks can just order an app and a drink. And take up a table for 2-3 hours.

And the reason is that all many of them REALLY want to do is see the fireworks while paying as little as possible.

Dinner is a side show.

Yes, this is the one I would think should have a minimum spending. People camp out for hours.

Agree, and to be honest....there's not much that's more overrated than watching the fireworks from Cali Grill or TOTWL.

I really like it! I don't think it is overrated at all. In fact we picked dinner at the California Grill and a view of Hallowishes over attending the Halloween party.

I have trouble believing Disney would do this. But if it's true, it's stupid to charge a seating fee at a non-buffet restaurant. I can not eat a whole entrée nor can my DD (13yrs old), especially for lunch when we're going to be going back into the parks in 90 degree (and above) heat. And I don't want to pay $23 & up for a meal I'm not going to eat all of, nor can I get a to go box for later. It's wasteful & ridiculous. Usually my DD & I either share an entrée or we order appetizers or order off the kid's menu. If I had to pay a fee on top of our orders, I totally would not go to the restaurant. It would feel like I was being robbed. :crazy2:

I have seen this at non Disney restaurants. It's generally a split plate fee. Can't say I blame them. Based on posts on here the number of patrons doing this may be hitting a point where you have some type of minimum. (Aka as you can't have half the guests only order soft drinks while you all fill up on that pastry basket)

So I think if you do appetizers or something you would not get a plate charge. But if it's "I'll just eat off my kids meal and drink water", prepare to pay. Seems fair, the restaurant is paying staff on the assumption you came for food.

Exactly.

How many times do we read people not only saying it is okay, but actually recommending people book BOG, order coffee and eat the pastry basket? I know it has to be a couple of times a week.

This action might be cheap for the customer, but it isn't for Disney. They are losing money every time someone does it. Why should they continue to allow it?

Can't believe BOG let's people go to breakfast, order a coffee and not order a meal and then eat a basket of muffins/pastries. Sorry, whoever is doing that, is taking advantage.

It's a ccnnundrum. And it's true that Disney does allow it (for now). However, the big question is...just because you COULD do something, does that mean that you SHOULD do it?

But all of you can't just order coffee and get a basket of pastries. Someone has to order a meal in order to get the pastries. And we're only talking about four little pastries. The meals are tiny. So even two people splitting an adult entree and the pastries are barely getting enough to eat. Add more people into the scenario, and you're only getting a few bites per person.

I will say it again: DISNEY CREATED THIS FIASCO AT BOG! If they're losing money, they will fix it eventually. But please, please just fix BoG. Don't mess with all the other restaurants just for this one mistake DISNEY made.

I have never encountered this at any restaurant, not saying it isn't out there, but where? Just curious. And I often share meals with my daughter, it's not that I'm cheap, it's that neither of us need to eat a lot, and I don't believe in wasting food. I do however always properly compensate my servers, and I let them know up front. As someone that has struggled with my weight for years I try to control portion sizes while teaching my daughter healthy choices ,it's what we do, it's how I lost 50 pounds.

I'm sure that *IF* Disney is seriously doing something like this, it's not just because of BoG...it's the whole ADR system. One thing not mentioned is that sharing meals stresses an already stressed ADR system. 10 TS credits between a couple can easily become 14, 15, or even more ADR's due to sharing. Think about if even only 10% of the guests at Disney did this. It's no wonder ADR's can be hard to get...and getting harder.

It's certainly bigger than just the BoG nightmare.

But the idea was that the basket went with the meal. It was not meant to be shared with people that didn't purchase the meal. And as someone said, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

Yes, Disney created this problem (no need to yell), and they may be fixing it. They might also fixing the problem that they have with people booking dinner at Cali Grill and taking up residence for 2-3 hours, all the while ordering coffee and a dessert to split. Or any other high demand location.

This may very well be their solution.

No one is saying you can't share a meal.

But if this is what happens, it simply means that you will have to pay a shared plate fee.

While it's the right thing to do as far as compensating your servers, Disney doesn't care about that. They get exactly $0 of tip money. Disney looks at the amount of the average check per person dining in the restaurant. If they see it dipping too low (which both sharing meals and making a reservation for 5 and only one person gets one cup of coffee or whatnot contributes to it) they'll make changes. I get that you're looking out for your health, but Disney looks out for its bottom line.

I think it's hard eating at Disney when you go to table service restaurants. The meals are expensive for adults (think children entrees are reasonable) and it's hard because as an adult, if I am going to spend approx. $30 for an entrée that I am not going to be able to bring home in a doggie bag, it's too much money to spend. When we go out to dinner at home, I take my leftovers but at Disney, it's not realistic and the meals are expensive. This year we are paying OOP and I plan on getting some kids meals at the table service restaurants because I won't eat a whole entrée and don't want to spend $30 on a meal.
