We're trying to plan our October 2007 trip, and I had a question regarding the Orange County school district's 2 day break in October. Does it really drive crowds up at the parks? Specifically MNSSHP. We're having a hard time deciding the dates we want due to various conflicts in schedules, and it looks like that would be our best week to travel unfortunately (if the days off are the same time they were this year).
I know they call it 'hell week' at HHN b/c of the schools being closed, so I was wondering if it also affected Disney parks as well...thanks a lot!

We just got back, we were there the 22-29th and it was DEAD with the exception of Saturday at EPCOT (food and wine festival was going on). The only line we saw over 30 minutes was for SOARIN', and even the FP wait for us was longer than expected. Otherwise, we didn't wait longer than 10 minutes for anything. Even the princess line at the ToonTown Fair was less than 10 minutes.

Not sure when the dates for the break are, but if you're looking at October, the last week is a good bet.

I believe I was there during the break, October 12 & 13 this year. We attended the MNSSHP on the Tuesday night that week, it was a little more crowded than I had anticipated (this was my first year so I had visions of emptyness dancing in my head) but definitely not unmanageable and we had a blast. Maybe there will be a party before the mini break that you could attend too?

On Thurs and Fri we went to Epcot and MK respectively. Again, there were some people (it was F&W festival too) but honestly we had gone to Epcot on Wed too and it seemed much less crowded on the Thurs. Friday at MK there were some long waits but we arranged our Fast Passes accordingly (Making sure not to get one for a ride that had a far out time like Peter Pan when we could get one for Winnie the Pooh that had a sooner return time. If we had got the Peter Pan one when we saw the times we would not have been able to get another one for 4 hours because of the return time.)

I would certainly not let the mini Florida vacation stop you from going but like I said, maybe try to hit a MNSSHP before that. It can get tricky working around Columbus Day and the Florida break but we have no complaints about it!

I live in Seminole CO just a smidge north of Orange, our fall break has been taken away b/c we have to start later in the year now and I believe that the case with Orange Co as well as I believe the ruling was statewide.
Hope that helps...
M
