Regal Mobility?

We have a trip coming up that I will need to rent an ECV. I was wanting one that would easily come apart for travel as we are staying off site and going to various parks. We are ending at Disney, so my first look was at ScooterBug for the ease of dropping the ECV off with Bell Services. Then I found Regal Mobility and the folding ECVs, and that looks much easier than taking one apart twice a day plus is lighter for loading. I know I would have to meet them our last day to give them the ECV as Bell Services doesn't accept ECVs from other companies anymore. Does anyone have any experience with either Regal Mobility or the folding ECVs?

No experience with either - but I will say this about folding scooters in general...

Some of them can be really uncomfortable to ride on; that's because depending on how they are made, they often use a slimmer profile seat base to accommodate the folding mechanism. That means less padding for your seat, and over the course of a long Disney day, that could mean your seat is sore from the scooter seat!

It's not always the case, but if I were going to rent one of those folding scooters, I would try to find real-world reviews from actual users to see how comfortable the seat is; that's really what is going to be the most important.

Also, I as mentioned in your other post, I know you want to be able to fold and carry it, but those tend to be awkward and hard to carry. Don't be surprised - or disappointed or upset - if you find that it's just easier to leave it unfolded, and ride it right on to the bus.

I know that a lot of people don't want to be the center of attention when they have to ride a mobility device up the ramp, but you have to remember that most of the time, Disney veterans will ignore the whole procedure. It's usually the newbies who stare - and the main reason they are looking is because the dang bus wheezes, beeps and carries on like crazy, and then barfs out a ramp! And then it does it all again in reverse! It's really not *you* that is the spectacle; it's the bus!

Also, the number of people who have never seen a mobility device board a bus in the real world is apparently stunning... And, let's face it; there's not a lot else to look at at the bus stop while you are waiting. So, some folks stare (and often I think they don't even realize they are staring, BTW).

But seriously - I thought my Travelscoot would be *so* easy, and I would just fold it up and walk on... and instead I ride it on every single time, and have for years now.

Rent for all-day comfort, especially if you are staying on-site at a Disney Resort Hotel; any ECV will fit easily into any Disney Resort Hotel room (yes, even Values!) and you will be glad at the end of the trip that you opted for comfort.

Remember - the whole idea is to come home from your vacation happier, more rested, and in less pain than when you left! 🙂

Thanks Mama Bunny. We are staying off site for a week (going to SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, and Aquatica), then a few days at Universal, and then two nights at Disney before we head home. I was looking at the fold up feature more for the loading/unloading from our van and for the smaller space it seems to take up (we also have four kids with us).

I hear you about the uncomfortable seat. When I rent one for vacation, I always bring my own cushion as it's my hip that keeps me from walking. Sitting on any of them is rough by the end of the day lol. I have always rented the larger ones that don't come apart and was worried the ones that come apart and the fold up one wouldn't be as comfortable. But we need the space that a portable one would offer (plus loading a full size one is heavy).

@mamabunny always cracks me up with her description of the wheezing bus and loading up - very true!

I saw your post also about Regal and it looks interesting. I can find the Regal website but those are for sale so I don't know which one you're renting. The ones I see mention that the heaviest piece is around 48-50lbs - so I that is similar to the larger portable scooter that I have rented in the past that comes apart - which was the same as the "Resort Lite ECV" on the scooter bug website. I was traveling with my husband and sons who lifted it for me (and put it together - it looked easy to put together). My thought is that the larger (bigger?) portable scooter might be more comfortable for your hip and not any heavier or take up more room in your vehicle. Once we got to Orlando and had unloaded the trunk into the hotel we had the whole trunk for the scooter which was plenty.

I got a portable for similar reasons - because we were going to Universal and Disney and it worked well enough. I found the portables didn't hold a long enough charge to get me through the day which is my biggest complaint about them compared to the regular ECV's. It's not always easy or convenient to find an outlet and wait for it to recharge. Those folding ones look cool though!

I use a GoGo Elite. Even though it does come apart - it’s really the battery and seat that are the heavy parts - so we take those 2 pieces off and load the rest as is - takes less than a minute

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and did a rental through Regal Mobility for the fold up scooter. With four kids with us, van space will be a premium, so having something fold up that small will be handy. After we get back, I'll update the post on how they were.

I bought an automatic foldup Transformer scooter from them and I love it. Only bad thing is seat is hard.

I find most of the seats uncomfortable after very long, so I'm taking my cushion. The scooters seem super easy, and I'm excited to not have to have my husband load a crazy heavy scooter or one with a million parts lol.

The cushion comes with a cover, it folds in half and has short handed on each side so it's portable.

(try selecting the word "this", and then go up to the formatting bar in the reply window. With the word "this" still selected (or highlighted, however you want to think of it) click on the icon that looks like two links of a chain; it should tell you it is for "inserting a link" if you hover over it with your mouse.

You should see the word "this" (absent the "s) has already been put in the top of the resulting pop up, and a space to paste the long link in the bottom section of the popup window. Click "Insert" and the link will be created.

I'm that weirdo who then uses the "Bold" and "Underline" text attributes to help links stand out easier for folks who may have browsers that don't make them as obvious)

Does Bell Services still accept ECV’s from Scooterbug?

We just got back from our trip, and I wanted to talk about my experience with Regal Mobility in case anyone does a search.

Reservations: I initially called in to make a reservation due to needing drop off and pick up at two different resorts and didn't see the option to do that online. The lady was very friendly and told me they were updating the system (so couldn't book at that time). She asked me to call back or reserve online the next day, as the update would allow people to book two different drop off/pick ups. I went back online a few days later and completed the reservation with no issues.

Drop off: We were staying off site initially. A lady called the Friday before my Sunday booking to confirm details, and she was nice. That Sunday, the driver called about 15 minutes out to tell me he would be there shortly. Both told me I had the option of meeting him or he could have left the ECV with bell services. We opted to meet with him to be clear with how to fold up the ECV and such. The driver was on-time and friendly. The ECV was fully charged with no issues. It came with a fold up basket (which was handy in the car) and charger. The driver showed us how to fold, unfold, and adjust the ECV.

Use: I used it everyday for nine days with most days being park open to close. We took a backpack that we hung off the seat with ponchos, fans, and such everyday as well as a cooler with water bottles that fit almost under the seat. The battery lasted every day with some left over except for our HS day. We had parked in the medical overflow lot and the ECV died just as I got it to the walkway by ride share. So my DH went to get the van and picked us up there. It wasn't a big deal as we were done for the day but had the parks been open longer, I would have needed to charge it somewhere. But honestly, I have had that issue with regular ECVs before too. I took a towel to put over the seat and a cushion. I only used the cushion a few days as I left it at the hotel for Aquatica day and found the seat comfortable. The steering column was adjustable and comfortable. Controls were easy to use and was fast enough to keep up with walking teens. The EVC does beep when backing up. The only "issue" I had when driving was it does not make tight turns. When I would go through lines, I would often have to do a three point turn to get around tight corners that other ECVs could make. That negative is easily outweighed by the positives though. When folded up, it is literally smaller than a large suitcase. It weighed about 50 pounds, and my husband easily could put it in and out of the van. It takes two adults (three if we are tired) to lift the ECV we have at home in and out of the van. We could quickly fold it up, put it away, and head out. It also unfolded easily, so no putting it together or anything like that. Our offsite hotel room was close to our parking spot, so when we DH would lift it out and tip it like a suitcase and roll it to our room.

Pick up: I had scheduled pickup for 9:00 a.m. on a Wednesday. When we got our Magic Express paperwork the night before we left, they had us being picked up at 8:50 a.m. I called Regal Mobility, and I was told the driver would try to be there as early as he could to make sure we made Magic Express. The driver called about 8:20 the next morning to let me know he would be there in 10 minutes. He was there at 8:30 a.m., and he was also very friendly. I really appreciated that they picked it up early.

Overall, I will rent from them again. The ECV folding up so small, easy transport, and such kind staff make it an easy decision. This would be an awesome one to rent for a cruise as well since it can be charged while folded up.
