My family of 4 has the regular DDP for our next trip. My youngest will be 10 when we go so we have 4 adult credits for our meals. DD will not eat that much. How easy is it to pay OOP for one person and use credits for the other 3 at TS restaurants? Is this too confusing for the CMs, or is it done often enough that they know how to do it? Would we be able to charge her meal to our room and deduct the 3 credits at the same time?

I am planning to use TS credits for all 4 of us when we eat at a buffet. It's when we eat at a restaurant with a menu that I'd like to use 3 credits and pay OOP for her. I'm assuming it's okay for her to order off the children's menu if we pay OOP.

I hope this makes sense. I'd appreciate any comments.

I think you could do this, but I would check the receipt very carefully when they bring it to you, as it will have the total number of credits used and the number of TS credits remaining (all are pooled together for the same room).

I have read here that adult credits could be used on children's menu items. Disney has no problem giving you something for a full adult credit that costs less if you had been paying OOP. The only problem is if you try to use a children's credit on an adult meal. You can never do that. I would think they would allow you to purchase a children's menu item OOP for your 10-y.o.

What will you do with the remaining TS credits? Or do you plan to do a couple of signature places or a dinner show?

It's also good you are using the credit at the buffets because they can cost you around $30 for an adult, depending on the restaurant. A TS credit will be well worth using rather than paying the adult price OOP for your DD.

I plan to use the remaining credits for our last day. We are staying 7 nights/ 8 days, but the DDP only gives us credits for 7 days. This way we'll have enough credits for our last day.

Just tell the CM at the beginning that your DD is OOP and they will do separate checks. Many times over the past few years our ILS came to join us for a dinner and we just told the CM which of us were on the DDP and who would be OOP and there was never a problem. In June we actually had 3 separate checks at our table, 2 for the DDP because there were different rooms and 1 for the ILS they were OOP.

The DP gives you credits based on the 7 nights you are staying and those credits are valid until midnight after you check out on the 8th day.

In order to have TS credits for the family you will have to pay OOP for your 10yo 4 times. Do you really think she will only eat at a buffet, all you care to eat or want Adult food 3 times while at WDW?

I always err on the side of holding on to my cash for food purchases if we're on the DP.

The server will be able to handle you paying cash for one order, just let them know which one at the time of ordering, not at the end of the meal.

For what its worth we found we had the right amount of credits. We paid OOP for one child TS entree and one Adult meal because we had booked a 2TS meal. However, had we been willing to cancel another TS meal we could have avoided that expense as we had plenty of CS credits we could have used for dinner instead. Keep that in mind as you may find that your family may share a lot of CS meals leaving you with extra credits for that final day.

Thanks for the advice, septbaby. We have used the DDP several times. I know my DD will not eat an adult sized meal. She also doesn't like meat and prefers pizza and mac-n-cheese. Granted, while we are at home I make sure she eats well-rounded meals, but on vacation I don't mind if she eats pizza and mac-n-cheese for a week. I said we'd use all 4 credits at buffets because I'm not sure they'd let us pay OOP for a child's buffet for a 10-year-old. However, if she's ordering a child's meal off the menu because that's what she wants I plan to pay OOP. Yes, I will do that 4 times (we're planning to do it at The Wave, Kona, Boatwright's, and LeCellier). That way we will have enough TS credits for another meal on our last day. I've looked at the menus and figured out that we are still saving money on food .
Thanks for your input and we'll be sure to let the CM know ahead of time what we plan to do.
