Refuse to give Disney your Finger-print?

I just noticed how old this thread is! I missed it the first time I guess. So never mind. ;)
It is old, Linda. Not sure why somebody would bring a first time around controversial thread, from three years ago, back again. Somebody mentioned 'troll', that would be my first guess also. Have seen it before on the Web. Seems either childish, pot-stirring, or both.

There are several of us who are very active and generally try to be very helpful on the boards, especially this forum. Some of the people, other than myself, include (in alphabetic order):

CleveRocks
doconeiull
kaytieeldr
****
SeashoreCM
TheRustyScupper
WDSearcher

Between the eight of us we average over 16,000 posts each. (Note this list is not intended to be all-inclusive)

But on occasion all of us (hopefully separately) will have snarky days. I know that I will, on occasion come up with a very off-the-wall comment (usually a very sick attempt at humor). So far I have never done anything to come up with infraction points, but I am sure I have come close and had posts reported to the Moderators.

All of us are here on these boards for fun, but also many of us try to be helpful in our own ways. If **** wants to dig up and reactivate a thread that was last posted a year and a half ago I would allow him his insanity. Personally I would not.
Mike, I am surprised at a post like this from you. I have always thought your information here has been good, especially as a CM 'insider', and continues to be so. And back when you were a moderator type person here, helpful also, especially on the disABILITIES board. Your information helped a lot when I was going to Disney with a herniated disk. You have always struck me as a helpful person. And I always enjoyed your late wife, Judy Sue, here also, her pin hat is a memory of mine forever. :thumbsup2

I have generally viewed you as a level headed person here....but, Mike, this post is out in left field, IMO. 16, 16,000, or 160,000 posts does not give one the license to be 'snarky'. Additionally, there are hundreds of other posters besides yourself and the above mention six posters who give great insight and help here, daily.

I saw here at the end a few references to using ignore. Greatest tool on the board. Years back, '01, '02 time frame, there was a poster on the community board, where I was one of the moderator type people at the time, who was one of the most intentionally hurtful people I have ever experienced in my like, on the Web or in RL. His existence was to hurt people here with his words and actions. As a moderator type, I could not put him on ignore. The minute I threw in my moderator dog tags for regular person dog tags here, I put him on ignore, as well as two other reincarnations of him. My time here became more peaceful to me. And on this board, two others have been my ignore for some time now, makes my time here a lot more enjoyable.

If you have issues with posters (saying this to anybody, not to Mike), put that poster on ignore. It really helps not having to see their drivel, other than, as somebody mentioned, in a quote. Hopefully, someday, vBulletin will add that feature too.

I agree with what you say. Though I don't post here as much as I could, I enjoy reading the Theme Park Board and honestly have been to WDW enough times over the course of my life to answer a lot of the questions here if I had the time to do so.

It bothers me that only certain posters are considered "experts" and it bothers me even more that they are allowed to be snarky and have joke threads when that would be worthy of points (or at the very least having threads moved to the CB) if it came from other posters.

I'm not sure where the notion of "worshiping" certain posters came from. I have asked many questions on these boards, and have gotten many good answers, and very few, if any of them were answered by those listed in a previous post. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to be able to answer questions about Disney World, just experience from taking trips.

I have to say the strangest thing happened after starting to read this thread. Can't believe it's still strong from 2007 I got interested because it was captivatingpopcorn:: I followed a link to page talking about airport screening and how some poor lady got stopped because of her fake breast and how it came out on the screen. the thread then went to how it would be funny if the terrorist made bombs in fake ****s :rotfl2:. I was laughing all the way to bed.
Still laughing when I woke up... if fake ****s then I wonder if guys can have fake :bombs: lol
So... to my point here after 2 years of post someone must of been reading what I was because up across the news on the TV was an alert that terrorist are nowtaking women to use fake ****s as bombs. :confused3 So if this is true, then we must all now worry about our fingerprints. :rolleyes1

This is the thread that just wont die...

(and yes, I know I just bumped it. Sorry.)

personally I'm waiting for disney to sell the lifetime ticket with implanted microchip and then I can just wave my hand and walk on by lol.

Do you have trouble logging on to the computer after wearing gloves for a while? I work in a biotech lab and that is a constant source of frustration. If my hand is in the nitrile gloves for too long I think the print swells or something and I can't log on. My computer also won't let me use my password if I have fingerprint set up.

Well, I also wear those gloves like there's no tomorrow, so that might have something to do with it. But really, when I look at my fingertips, I can barely even see the prints. :sad2:

respectfully, you may not be aware of the amazing services provided here by the person you're admonishing. Need to know how to get from dhs to epcot? There's a map for that. The best places from which to view wishes? There's a map for that. The options to get from the mk parking lot to the actual park? There's a map for that. Just ask - robo will provide it.

Have a question about, well, anything wdw-related? Robo has the answer. Not a snappy or snarky one. Not a misinformed one. The correct answers. So, once in a great while (=, actually, this one time) he gets a little feisty and reactivates an old thread... About an ongoing issue. Ignore it if you don't like the topic, or the direction, or the posters.

In fact, if you care to not read posts by a given diser or disers, you can "ignore" them. See your user control panel page.

:thumbsup2!

I'm late to the party, but I seriously can't believe that people are dissing Robo!

Of course we are! Although Maui sounds good too...or the new DVC out there... ;)

I say we all show up with our GAD vouchers at DTD, refuse to give our finger scans, ask to refill our mugs at each restaurant, and show up at closing time with our late Fastpasses...
And then, of course, come back and post a trip report ;)

:confused3 Where did Mike say anything about having a license to be 'snarky'? He simply said - after listing several among MANY helpful DISers - that "But on occasion all of us (hopefully separately) will have snarky days."

That's not endorsement; it's simply a fact of human nature.

No, I don't see where you're getting this. Nobody said - or even implied - that only certain posters are "experts". Surely you're not referring to Cheshire Figment's recent post? He lists a few helpful posters, and clearly states the list is NOT all-inclusive.

Thank you for your kind words Katy.

And for Dan, maybe I used a poor choice of words and instead of saying "snarky" I should have said "silly". But them usually if I am doing a silly comment I am also, in the same thread, giving useful information. For example, in another thread where a person asked about No Expire tickets held by a person who had died I said something to the effect of "Just as Disney does not penalize a child for growing older, they do not penalize a person for dying". Taken on its own that phrase is silly/snarky (take your pick) but I then gave further advice.

And why, when you quoted me, did you asterisk out Robo's name?

I think this thread is getting absolutely ridiculous. It hasn't been on topic for three pages and it has turned into personal attacks on helpful posters.

As far as the poster that doesn't like people being considered "experts"....honestly, most of the posters who are "experts" didn't put themselves in that position or give themselves that title. Also, Cheshire Figment never said it gave them license to be snarky. He was explaining a basic fact of human nature, people will be silly at times, have off days etc.

Cheshire Figment is incredibly knowledgable about WDW tickets, I have seen numerous other posters refer to him as "the DIS resident ticket expert" but never has he professed to be such himself.

I started the original CSR FAQ thread, but since then many other knowledgeable posters have stepped up and offered wonderful advice. I don't consider them or myself "experts."

I feel that the majority of posters that have been here on the DIS year after year are enthusiasts! Most of us don't work for Disney and we never will but we share a common passion and we hope that we can help others navigate what can be a very complex and overwhelming vacation destination. I come to the DIS to give and receive advice and share an interest with hundreds of thousands of people. If some are more knowledgable than others what is the problem with that? :confused3

I'll say this...I pretty much knew ZERO about disney before coming here..you should have seen me in 2000 with my 5 year old D in tow..we had fun, sure, but I missed out on soo much because of my lack of knowledge about the world.
Now, I wouldnt single at any one person, or person(s) here for their expertise, but I seriously doubt folks here would have learned (and are still learning) as much without them being here.
As for being snarky, well, I am as well, so it doesn't bother me AT ALL.
Thick skin people, thick skin. it's a message board after all.

I must really be naive. I had no idea these boards were so "clicky". I know Robo from HIS maps and I know Brad from his wealth of Photopass info. There is also a mod around here with a Jellyrolls avatar :thumbsup2, but that's about the only people that really stick out to me.

Disney is supposed to be a way to forget about your responsibilities for a little while. Why turn it into a a responsibility if it is only going to aggravate you? At that point I rather you not help me and try to enjoy Disney for yourself.

If you're tired of telling posters the same thing, just stop doing it.:confused3

There isn't a DIS rule that states you must answer all of the questions posted on the Theme Parks board. There are thousands of DISers that are able and willing to answer questions.

To punish DISers for asking the same questions over and over and over and over and over ...:rotfl2:

Those are the two most unbelievable responses that I have ever read. Robo knows more about Disney then the top executives do. He certainly has forgotten more about Disney then most of us will ever know. He is always helpful, humorous and patient. Yet, here you come up with that hog wash. Shameful!

Respectfully, you may not be aware of the amazing services provided here by the person you're admonishing. Need to know how to get from DHS to Epcot? There's a map for that. Wish I had thought of that...it is right on the money.

I personally dont think it even works in that way to discern one person from the other. I think its just a mental deterrent to keep people who are thinking about trading cards and passing on discounts from doing it. I think its like security cameras in a store just there to keep people on the straight and narrow. I mean if i thought there was a shot of me getting caught at the gate with someones ticket and being ejected in front of everybody. Like the guy getting kicked off of the island on survivor. I wouldnt dare out of fear of public shame. Just one mans opinion, i think the whole thing is for show.

In 2004 I used my MIL ticket from 1998 (which had one day left on it).... I put it through the machine and placed my fingers in the scan..... nothing happened accept I was let into the park....

this was before I knew better.... of course! But I agree with the above statement.... that it is nothing more than a deterrent.....

If a ticket was last used prior to a change in the system (like when they switched from two- to one-finger scans), then the ticket was essentially unassigned. I don't remember if there were changes between 1998 and 2004.

And at times the finger scans are turned off or not functioning.

And some tickets are linked together so that "whose ticket is whose" is not a problem at the turnstiles.

But they MOST DEFINITELY WORK. My DFiL had problems because the first time he went in, he used the wrong finger, and if he used any other finger it didn't work. If they were just a "mental deterrent", he would have no problems. And plenty of other people can also confirm that they work.
