I just found out that l will need to cancel out of my trip to Disney due to having colon cancer surgery. Our trip starts August 31st and l don't know if l will be recovered enough or even allowed to fly or started chemo by then. My husband and adult daughter were going as well and l want them to still go while l am at home recovering, My adult son will be home with me and l have other people to rely on. I don't want them to miss the trip, we have been many times so this isn't like a one and only trip. Anyways we have tickets to mnsshp but l won't be using mine, if explained to Disney do you think we can get a refund or even a credit to use down the road? Thanks

Sending positive thoughts to you! 😊

Yes; explain your circumstances to Disney and they can apply a refund to your credit card. I’ve received a refund in the past when my CM friend was sent out of state by Disney on an emergency Make A Wish trip. Even though it wasn’t our emergency, the CM was very understanding in refunding the cost of the party tickets.

Thank you for your quick response. I see the surgeon on the 9th of July and from what l hear the surgery will be within a week or so. I will have more details then on recovery time etc but there is a good chance l won't be going. The trip needs to be paid off in a few weeks time so some dining reservation, fp's etc will have to be changed or cancelled. I am so scared ********.

Hopefully all goes well for you. I know one or two people who've had a similar surgery and you might just be okay. So at least wait to see what your surgeon says. If all goes well, it would be great to sneak in a trip before chemo starts.

At any rate, as others have said, tickets are non-refundable but I'm pretty sure they make these sort of exceptions.

Please let us know how it all goes for you.

Yes l will, Thank you so much.

Sending you healing thoughts! Yes, contact them and explain your situation. I had to cancel a WDW trip a few years ago due to health reasons and had already purchased MNSSHP tickets. I was given a refund with no problems and I'm sure you will too.

My husband had colon cancer surgery in 2012 (stage 3). He had 6 months of chemo afterwards and is cancer free still today. Just wanted to share for encouragement. I never read much on the internet throughout his diagnosis and recovery because so much is negative. Remember the positive stories happen every day! Prayers!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. They did a biopsy when they did the colonoscopy so l don't know the results of that yet. I guess l will know Tuesday. Thank you again.

I wanted to reply and encourage you. I was diagnosed with colon cancer last March. I had surgery and six months of chemotherapy. I am cancer free and pray that I will always remain that way! We already had a Disney trip planned; we left about two months after my surgery. I had had two rounds of chemotherapy by that point.

I wouldn’t cancel until you have at least seen the surgeon, because you might find that you can still go. We go every year and decided that we would go at whatever pace I needed, but it didn’t really affect our trip much because I was feeling well.

My doctor described the chemo as “not terrible, but not something you would want to go through again,” or something to that effect, and I think that is a fairly accurate description. I did not have as many harsh side effects as friends who have had other types of cancer. If I may give you advice, I would suggest to avoid googling about it because that will scare you to death, and just focus on getting the next chemotherapy session over with, and not focus on the fact that it is six months.

My prayers go out to you for a full and easy recovery!

Thank you for your encouraging words. Congratulations on being cancer free, and yes the internet hasn't helped my fears. Because we live in Canada l think it is best that l cancel out, but l want my husband and daughter to still go. We do have trip insurance but it won't cover me if for some reason l have any complications. Our travel agent has advised me against going.
Like you we go to Disney every year, so there is always next year.
Thank you again for telling me your experience it helps me a lot, and congratulations again on being cancer free.

Update: after seeing the surgeon today my surgery will be August 7th, not enough time for recovery to go on the trip. We called Disney and had no problem getting a refund for my Halloween ticket. Thanks everyone for you help and kind words.
Wish me luck!

Thoughts and well wishes headed your way.

Positve thoughts for you. I am glad Disney refunded your ticket with no issues. Truthfully, i have had to cancel ticket for a party that i just wanted to change and canceled a mvmcp because i changed my trip. They say no refunds, but they are very helpful. Have a positive attitude and they will reciprocate.

All the best, OP :)
