refund on reduced airplane tickets??

If you have purchased airline tickets and notice (through FareWatcher) that the price has gone down since you bought them, will they refund you the difference if you call immediately? Does anyone know how that works? I thought I read somewhere before that someone had done that. I bought them directly through Continental. TIA for the help.

You should be able to call the airline, and ask them to re-ticket you at the lower price.

Be aware, some airlines charge a fee for this (I think NW is $25, CO might be $50, not sure), so it's only worth it if the fare went down significantly.

Also, it may not work. Airlines have different "Fare Buckets" The ticket you booked falls into a certain bucket. If the price that's lower is on a different bucket, they won't do it for you. But your best bet would be to call and find out.

I just did this for our upcoming June trip. I booked on USAirways, paid $201.50. Last week, I was checking, and the fare went down to $176.70, so I called. They issued vouchers for the $24.80 difference, one for each person who has a ticket. Two days later, the fare went down to $156.70...another phone call, and more vouchers coming for $20. I have a year to use the vouchers.

It depends on the airline, but, generally it has to be the exact flight, on the exact day and the same fare code. If you hold a ticket coded for "xyz" fare and the new fare is coded "abc' then they will not refund the difference. Best bet, if this happens, call the airline.
