Refund for an early departure

If I had to leave my 9-day vacation early due to an illness of family member back home, does Disney offer partial refunds once you've checked in?

What happens in a family emergency is decided at the Resort on a case-by-case basis.

My FIL passed away many years ago while we were at WDW. The Poly had no problem at all with our leaving early. They even drove us to the airport since we booked the first available flight back home, which was just a few hours away. It took a few weeks for the refund to come through the CC.

I know I never get the insurance policy but it is there. They'd be within their right to not refund you if you don't have the insurance. But I would think if it was serious no one could be that cruel. There is no definite yes or no answer here though unless you have the insurance and even then I'd read it thoroughly.

The fine print in the MM we received says that any refund after arrival is at Disney's "sole discretion" so it depends on the circumstances.
