Hi,
what the size of the refrig. they put in your room for medical reasons?

Very small (maybe 2-3 ft tall?). I can't imagine medicine that must be refrigerated taking up more room than what is provided in that frig!!

If you need more space, they are happy to store your meds at the front desk!

oh, that bigger than i thought!!!:goodvibes

so therefore there enough room to put quart of milk in it??? my dd takes milk with her meds... ;)

Wonderful!!!

ditto... enough room for insulin plus a couple bottles of water, etc.

its not big like the other fridges and it does not have a freezer

I have a question regarding this. Do you need to have a dr's note stating that a fridge is needed for medical reasons? My dh was just diagnosed as diabetic and needs insulin for awhile.

thanks

My DH has diabetes too and the person who noted it on our reservation said they'll just need to see the medicine indicating that it needs to be refrigerated.

we don't get an mds note, but do show the insulin at check in.

I have a medical refrigerator reserved for our stay in September. I assumed that they were the same ones that can be rented per night, but from what I read on here, it sounds like they are smaller. We need a decent sized refrigerator because of my 3 year old's life threatening food allergies- we have to bring her soy milk and all of her food and prepare it each day. If the medical refirgerator is only big enough for some insulin and a couple of bottles of water, it sounds like I may need to rent the bigger one or bring one from home.

Anyone shed any more light on this? Thanks! It is sure nice to find this out now rather than show up in September and our plans are ruined.

I have read some posts on this board stating that some refrigerators are not cold enough...the Poly in particular..

If I had medical needs, I would contact someone within Disney to discuss the medical situation in advance and ensure that the refrigerator had the capability of keeping cold!!!

Good luck!:goodvibes :goodvibes

The for-medical-purposes, aka medication that must be refrigerated, should be expected to be the shoebox-sized ones.

Guests who need a refrigerator for additional items should expect to pay to rent the standard dorm-size fridge. This does not necessarily mean you will have to - but it makes the most sense to be prepared.

The med. fridge that we had was fine temp. wise....

If it seems to be a problem, you can always call for another one.

Re: soy if you find there is not enough room in the fridge could you fill the ice bucket & use that?

What rooms automatically have refrigs? (We don't need one. They are just a nice surprise when we see one in the room already.)
Our FQ room last weekend had one in the room, dorm size refrig. And it kept our extra waters very cold.
We have had refrigs in other rooms/resorts also and never had an issue with not being cold enough.

The only rooms that do not have fridges are the values. The fridges we have had at a variety of resorts have always kept our water/soda cold.

Unless you are staying at a value there is no reason to request a fridge as all the other resorts have them.

::yes::
The Moderate, Deluxe and Home Away from Home (DVC) resorts all have refrigerators.
If you are at a Value resort and request a refrigerator for medications, you may get a dorm size frig or you may get a shoe box size frig.

My son #2 is an IDD and carries his novapen in a frio pack during the day. These are brilliant at keeping the insulin cool without getting it so cold as to cause damage.

A lot of people with diabetes use Frio packs.
Here's a link to a US supplier of Frio packs.

Most insulin doesn't need to be kept cold, just cool, for the bottle you are using (it needs refrigeration for longer storage). Check with your Pharmacist for the requirements of your particular insulin because there are some types that are more sensitive, but most are not.
