We will be staying at POP in August. I know that they will supply a free fridge for people that require it for medicine, etc., but does this also apply for the storage of breast milk? Or are we required to rent one at our own cost?

I wonder the same thing. My question is, why would they know the difference? If you are requesting a refrigerator, then you are requesting a refrigerator. They should not have to know the reason you need it.

The difference is whether they give it to you for free or not.

That's what I'm saying. Either they offer for free (for any reason) or they charge for it. It shouldn't be dependent on what it's used for. At least that's what the agent told me when I asked for one in my hotel room (non-Disney property) - for breastmilk.

I am not sure if this would fall under the medication needs. However, when I was traveling to the all stars when my DD was 9mos old they did give me one to keep her formula in at no charge. I think it would depend on who is helping you at the time. When I had the same situation at Pop with another daughter two years later, the person who checked us in said no charge because it was for formula. I got a bill a few days later, when I went to the front desk to take care of it they reversed the charges. It wouldn't hurt to ask at check in, but be prepared to pay just in case. Good luck. Have a wonderful trip.

Disney does charge for fridges at the Value resorts, unless you have a medical need. So at Disney it is dependant on what it is used for. If it is considered a non medical need, Disney charges $10.60 a night.

There are so many fridge swaps especially at POP why not try to get in on one ?

FYI it looks like there are a lot of fridge swaps on the master list, but actually it seems that many of these have lost their fridges somewhere along the way.

Well, I think it should qualify. It is a medical need. I would call and ask, though. Let us know. I am interested in this answer!

I would also make sure to bring an insulated bag with small ice packs to keep the expressed breast milk cool in the parks since it can spoil if at room temp longer than 4 hrs (and much faster out in the FL heat!).

Two years ago my daughter asked and was told that there would be a daily charge for the frig. She was breastfeeding, but wanted to store some extra. So she paid the daily $10 fee.

I will be requesting a frig for my meds since I am a diabetic. I am wondering what size it is? Is it a small cubed 1.7 cubic or bigger than that. People have told me it is dorm size but not for sure what size that is. I would also like to know the size since we will be bring some food and putting it in ziploc bags to heat up later, like pizza and chicken. We will be eat one meal in the parks and breakfast and one meal at our room. So i will be also storing milk. I am going to bring a cooler but am not for sure what size until i find the size of the frig. I might also get an electric cooler. :confused3

Excellent question! I think people should definitly get one free if they are using it for breastmilk storage. Breastmilk is nature's best medicine afterall. Works wonders on eye infections, ear infections, and canker sores..... Helps speed healing of minor cuts and scrapes plus it decreases the chances of your baby becoming ill, getting ear infections, it incidences of diabetes as well as childhood cancers.... the list goes on and on and on.... Certainly a worthy item to require refrigeration!

Ok let me just add my opinion...I breastfed both of my DDs got a lot of info from LeLeeche League (think that's right the kids are now mid 30's) and agree if possible its the best start in life, moms should breastfeed anywhere, etc...BUT honestly how can it be called a medical need? It is a choice..albiet a great choice, but where would it end? Someone who needed to refrigerate juice because it keeps them "regular" if you get what I mean....not trying to stir any pots here but why should WDW give free anything? Yes insulin and other medicines that need refrig but then it will be babyfood in jars, children that drink whole milk, hey I want flavored coffee creamer & when I open it it needs refrigeration...again my choice (and yes maybe not the best example) but is anyone seeing the reasoning behind my thinking?

I understand your thinking. And I was a nursing Mom as well with three children. If you don't pump, only nurse, there is no need for the fridge. It is a convenience to pump and store, therefore a choice. I'm sure we could all spin a reason why a fridge is 'needed'. Ultimately, it is up to Disney if it is truly a medical need. If I were in this situation, I would budget the cost of the fridge and not try to call it a medical need.

I could swear I read when reading the disablilty threads about getting a free fridge for medical needs that it was smaller(like shoebox size) than the normal fridge they rent for the $10 fee ? Does anyone know if this is true, if so it would not be large enough to hold anything other than meds?
