I wasn't aware the last 2 times we stayed at WDW with the DDP that we were entitled to refillable mugs. Duh. So this time I am making sure to get them. I read in the Passporter that you can still get a bottled drink with your quick serve meal (and save for later) and use the refillable mug. Is that true?

Also do most of you get much use out of the the free refills?

Mugs were not included with the regular DDP until this year. Yes, it is true that if you are eating at your resort you can get a bottled drink to save for later. We get a ton of use with our mugs, but we like Coke and hot chocolate, so it just depends on the person.

I think on our last week long trip, out of our 4 mugs, we used 2 of them, 1 time, to bring drinks to the pool.
So no, we got basically no use out of them.
You can only use them at your resort food court, which isn't necessarily close to your room.
We never ate lunch or dinner at the resort food court. We'd generally only pass the vicinity of the food court on the way in and out of the resort. And didn't have interest in lugging the mugs to the parks.
Plus, we wouldn't allow our kids to drink any of the available beverages (there is nothing healthy for kids). And for us, while we like some coffee and sodas, not so often that we need to run to the food court for it. Free coffee maker is already in the room. Don't feel like a 10 minute round trip walk from the room or pool, just to get 1 cup of diet coke. (did do it 1 time from the pool).

They did become souvenirs though.

This will be our first trip coming up in Sept. We're getting the refillable mugs free with our dining plan but when do we get them? Will they be waiting in our room, do we have to go to the front desk or resort food court to get them?

My family also found that the refillable mugs weren't that useful. Technically, you have to use them at the resort where you purchased the mug (there are a few exceptions). So, if you eat at your food court a lot or don't mind carrying it around with you, then it is useful, otherwise it becomes a nice souvenir. At least if you get the bottled drink while using your mug at meals, you can take that with you to the park or save it for later (especially if you get back after the food area has closed for the night).

You have to get your mug at your resort's food court or food location.

We love them. Although we don't eat often at our resort, DH will go fill them in the am while I am getting ready for the day. Also, if we come back throughout the day its nice to get a drink, and then at the end of the night as well. We don't always get soda, I really prefer getting ice water about half the time. Yes, we do the DP, although even years ago prior to the DP we bought them. We use them at home on a daily basis. It keeps the magic with us every day:lovestruc

We found ours to be very useful - we stayed a POP, so no coffee maker in the room. I walked to the food court every morning for coffee or chocolate whilst DH was in the shower, then went back to the food court to fill with iced water for the car journey to whichever park we were visiting that day - DH took the car from it's parking spot and met me at the front doors of check-in.
We didn't take the mugs into the parks.
On the way back at night, DH would drop me off at check-in, then I'd fill up with something cold - (nice after the journey back in the car) then meet DH at the room after he had parked the car.
If we went to the pool, I would fill them again with something cold for poolside. Then most nights we had a walk around the resort before bed time (usually around 11:00) and fill them again with hot chocolate to take back to the room.
We certainly got a lot of use out of them on our 14 night trip!!!!

And we're still using them regularly on our weekend camping trips in the UK!!!

Basically, just like your DDP meal and snack credits, you will have an appropriate number of "mug credits" attached to your KTTW cards. Just go to your resort's food court (or whatever passes for one), get the mugs, and "pay" for them with your mug credits.

We got a lot of use out of our mugs, but we had a preferred room at POP, so it literally took less than three minutes to send someone up to the food court to fill 2 or 3 mugs and bring them back. Even at the end of a long park day, it was no trouble at all to walk back to the room, get the mugs, and then go fill them up.

We're staying at POFQ this next trip, and it seems to be a small resort so I think we'll do okay with being able to get refils without a lot of fuss. We never took them with us into the parks, though, I hate carrying around more than I have to, and a good water bottle holds a lot more than the mugs.

2 adults here. :goodvibes
We got the use out of the mugs every time. I cannot tell you how many times we would have had to purchase a drink or make sure we had water.
For us, it was a savior. Filled it twice a day minimum and it more than paid for itself. Plus, you get a great souvie. :surfweb:

Folks with kids did not have to stop and buy drinks. There were ample choices too. I saw tons of parents send one down to the CS place at each resort different times a day to get drinks. Gives the parent a walk, and no hauling the wallet out every time someone says I'm thirsty.

For us, it depends on where we are staying and how close we are to the food court. I go to WDW several times a year and always get the refillable mugs. At the values and moderates we've always used them alot. We also used them alot at WL and AKL. However, I did a split stay at CSR and YC in Dec '10 and used the DxDDP both trips so got two mugs. I was in the Cabanas section, so used it alot at CSR, but at the YC I only used it once, because there is no CS there to fill them at and I didn't want to have to run all the way over to the BC to fill it up.

We wouldn't have a trip without the mugs. We absolutely love them and use them a TON.

We spend a fair bit of time at the pool and that's when we use them the most. I will guess and say that we refill 3 or 4 times in an afternoon at the pool. We also get coffee and tea every morning with them. With meals we get bottled water to keep in our room and to take into the parks.
