Ok Please don't flame me but I just would like some opinions on whether we should invest in some refillable mugs if we are splitting a six night stay. We are doing nights 1-3 at POFQ and the nights 4-6 at Boardwalk Villas. Never been to either resort so not sure if it is easy access to get refills.

Do you think it is cost worthy to buy for three days. And dare I ask if I can use the POFQ at the BWV since it is the same trip.

We have two kids 5& 7 that are not soda drinkers. Two greatgrandparents 80 & 85 that are coffee drinkers and my DH and I can do soda but don't have to have it alot.

What do you think?

Thanks!

It's stamped right on the mugs now that they are "only to be used at the resort it was purchased at for the length of that stay." Sounds like if no one is a big soda drinker, it wouldn't really be worth it anyway if you are gonna spend alot of time in the park.

On the other hand, we have mugs from lots of resorts and treasure them as souvenirs. I just love drinking my coffee from my Wilderness Lodge or Contemporary mug in the AM.
But I'm a big Disney weirdo, so what do I know?:p

I love my WL mug, too. Do they change the colors? Mine is green...and the next time I go I'd love to pick up a mug in a different color.

I have a green wilderness mug too and am wondering if it can be used over several years' time. Do they "expire" or are they good as long as they last?

Cmbar, we used ours a lot for coffee in the afternoons, and like several of the previous posters said, it's nice to have them at home for souvenirs.

You could always get one at each resort and share it (with washings in between users, of course).

I would buy at least one mug for you and one for the grandparents at POFQ. You'll have a coffee maker at BW and they'll have mugs to drink from.

Depending on the CM (as always with this topic), you may be able to use your POFQ mugs at the 2 Boardwalk locations since you bought them on your current trip. Some CMs are OK with this and some are not. Both Boardwalk locations, BoardWalk Joe's Coffee Cart and BoardWalk Bakery are staffed and you ask the CM's to fill your mug.

How much coffee/soda do you drink? Since those drinks cost about $2 apiece, they might be a good idea. Also, consider them a fairly cheap souvenir.

What if you have older mugs that are not stamped with the good for only this visit stamp? We go to Disney about 3 or more times a year from Michigan, and have the older cups. Can we still use those?

Based on your description, I would not advise buying the mugs - unless you want them for souvenirs /to use at home.

The walk to get refills at the BWV will be a long one and the mugs only hold 12 oz (without ice). Since you will have a refrigerator and a coffee maker in the villa rooms, you will be happier making your own coffee and just buying or bringing a six pack or two of your favorite soda. You can buy quite a bit of both before you even pay for the mugs. That said, it might be worth it if you drink a lot of soda and hang out at the pool for long periods of time.

You don't get free refills of milk or juice with the mugs and if you kids don't drink much soda (good for you), it's really not worth it for a few glasses of kool-aid/punch or hot cocoa.

Again, based on your description and my assumption that you will spend most of the days at one of the parks, it doesn't seem like the mugs would be worth it for your family.

Best wishes -

Disney's policy has always been that the mugs are good for the resort you bought them at for the length of the trip you bought them. It was posted on signs around the resort and recently they started adding the verbage to the mug itself. However, CMs have told persons that they could use the mug forever, opposite of the official Disney policy. Why they did that I don't know.

IMHO... The CM's don't want to be the "bad guy" for telling you that you can't use your mug. I understand their perspective, why should they be berated by a guest who wants to re-use their mug, even if a sign says that they can't.

There has always been a posting with the description that the mugs were for the current visit only. When we bought our first set, the CM said they were such a good deal because we could use them on future trips. This even though she was facing the sign that said they were good for the current trip only. That goes to show you that the CM's don't always know the rules.

I wouldn't bother buying mugs for such short stays at each resort. Especially if your kids don't drink pop. I would just purchase some canned/bottled drinks and use the coffee maker if necessary.

POFQ is quite small, and we found we did use our mug a lot as it was so handy to pop in for a coffee - we just purchased one and shared the drinks - probably a flameable offence on this board but it worked for us.

I was relieved to hear your opinions on the "old" mugs. We think the new prices are getting outrageous. Besides, the older mugs are dear friends now and have seen many trip adventures. We've never had any problem using them in the courts and we don't hide them at all.
This last trip I even saw families filling up empty water bottles at the soda fountain, so the chance that anyone is going to get scolded for using a purchased mug is one in a million.

We bought 2 mugs at Polynesian, and 2 mugs at Yatch Club.

I love them as souvenirs and use them every day for my "car coffee."

I always get the mugs. I like to take them to the pool because you can have them refilled at the pool snack bar. It's nice to sip a fresh diet coke with ice next to the pool. I also use it for morning coffee (I send my early bird husband down to fill it up), and I use them at home too.

We buy new mugs each trip. For a couple of reasons. We generally try a new resort and because it's policy... I try to follow the rules when I know they exist.

I am with you on that. We use our mugs from CBR and cups from MK and AK while reading the DIS.

I also try to buy one mug from each resort I stay at. Of all resorts I've bought mugs at, I have to say that BWV is the most difficult to refill. It was just way too much hassle. But, we bought just one, so no big deal. I would get a mug or two at POFQ. It's much easier to get refills there and then you'll have a nice remembrance of your trip when you are home.

We must have a total of 14 of the darned things at home. 3 from POR, 3 from DxL, 2 from AllStarMusic, 1 from BWV, 3 from the Polynesian, 2 from TL. Now, we buy just one from a resort. Otherwise, I'm going to feel real silly in divorce court when the judge asks what the reason for my dh's asking for a divorce is and I have to answer..."Too many Disney mugs Your Honor!!!"
