I posted this on the newbie site but no one has responded so I thought I might try it here.. My DH and I are going Oct 25th to Nov 1st. 2 years ago when we were there, my DH bought the refillable plastic beer mug at the CS in EPCOT in Germany. I think it was like $11 and then you could get it refilled as many times as you want for like so much money. Does anyone know if he brings it with him they will refill it? :confused3 (I know they change the refillable mugs at the resorts every year so you can't reuse them from year to year. I was actually thinking of bringing my old POFQ mugs to use and see what happens..what can they do? Just tell me no..)

Any help would be appreciated..

Hmm... Good question. I don't know the answer for sure, because I've never tried it, but knowing Disney, I'll bet that you can't reuse mugs from year to year. You're right about the hotels, and I'll bet that Epcot will be the same deal.

I don't know about the beer mug, I would think you could, but really don't know. I know that the refillable mugs at the waterparks can be brought back and you can just buy a new sticker with a current UPC for like half-price, I wonder if the park mug would work the same?

I do know that you more than likely won't have anyone say anything to you about the resort mug, but you're probably going to be lectured by people here that you shouldn't do it.

I do know that the subject of re-using resort mugs has been brought up before and often provokes quite a heated discussion. The resort mugs are sold as use until the end of the stay in which the mug was purchased.

Well the only thing I have to say is if you take your resort mug back to reuse it, it's dishonest.

I guess I just have more morals than to do that. I can't live with a guilty concience. :confused3

But if you are not like me, then by all means, give it a go.

As for the beer mug, I would assume that it's different now.

We have refillable mugs from several resorts that go back over 10 years, and we bring them every trip and have never been approached by anyone about it, and no one has ever approached us for using a mug from a resort other than the one we are staying in. The policy then was that you could use them at ANY resort forever. (they also came with a price tag of $5.99)! Times have changed!

The souvenior beer stein is $11.50 and comes with your first mug of beer. You can then use that souvenior stein for refills, but the cost of the refill is the same as the cost of a "new" beer $7.00. So it's not a refillable mug in the true sense of the word, they will simply fill your stein instead of their plastic cup, but the cost is the same for either one. So, yes, he could bring it along if he wants to cart it around all day, but it's not going to save him any money over buying a beer without the mug. And other places that sell beer (or even soda) won't refill his stein.....he'll get a cup like everyone else and have to pour it in his stein himself, lol.

Refillable mugs are not useable in the parks....only at your resort. The posted policy says that it's for use at that resort until the end of your stay. So, you are not supposed to use it at a different resort and you are not supposed to bring them back the next visit.

The previous posters are correct....this thread could quickly turn ugly as people tell you that you are stealing from Disney by reusing your mug from a previous vacation, or by reusing your mug while you visit another resort to look around at the holiday decor (or whatever brought you to that other resort where you are not staying overnight).

However, human nature means that you'll have to decide for yourself whether you follow the rules as written and generally recognized as correct.....or whether you interpret those rules some other way, lol.

Just be prepared for a lot of flaming if you have your own interpretation.

Since I don't stay on site, I don't have to worry about what the rules say....so I skip the soda fountain and head straight for the pools. JUST KIDDING!! (for those not in the know, you can't use a pool if you aren't a guest of that resort....i.e. no pool hopping allowed, another big controversial topic here on DIS). At least I'm not bringing my short 5 year old along to the pools, he's in the parks on his "under 3 is free" ticket. (Yes, another controversial topic...and me joking again, since my kids are taller than me!).

As far as I know those aren't even the current cups, so hence the :rotfl: Read the description it's just too funny.

Thanks for the info..please, I'd rather not carry that thing all over EPCOT myself but sometimes the DH can be a bigger kid than me! :goodvibes It does make sense not to bring it since a refill of the mug will cost just as much as just getting a beer in a plain cup.

As for the refillable mugs at the resorts, I really don't look at it as stealing in my opinion. Sorry, that's just me. I paid for the mug, it's not like I'm brining my own cup or thermos and filling it. My father worked in the industry for years so I know how much profit these places make on items such as soda, popcorn, etc.

Technically, it is stealing. You paid for that mug for that week.

And I love how people say, I know how much profit these people make so it's ok if I take a little soda here and there without paying. That's what drives costs up is people taking advantage of the system. People like that obviously aren't business owners. When I buy soda, I'm paying for my soda and your soda because you didn't pay.

Just because they make a large profit does not mean it is ok to steal. You love going to Disney and having a wonderful time at a clean park with attractions showcasing the latest technologies. All of that is not free! They employee way more cleaning staff than necessary just to keep the place "Disney" clean. They keep a huge staff of Imagineers just to come up with new and cool attraction ideas.

But like I said, I was raised with morals, if you can get away with stealing and not having a guilty concience, then that is cool. When I was 6 years old, I took a bell out of a basket full of bells at a craft store, and my parents made me take it back and apologize to the store owner for stealing. It was a little 5 cent bell, but I sure learned my lesson. Maybe more children should be raised that way.

Excellent post.

By the way, we got our first refillable mugs in 1997 at the Polynesian. There were signs posted back then at Capt Cook's that the mugs were good only for the length of the trip that the mug was purchased.

I was raised with morales as well. Please don't attack me without even knowing me. I was only giving my opinion. I realize what it takes to run these parks and keep them clean. I've been to WDW more times than I can count since 1978 and Disney has gotten ALOT of my money. I never complain either like most people about how Disney is so expensive, I won't go there, etc. I actually read a few weeks back about how the mugs are only supposed to be used during the length of your stay and we were talking about not schlepping them in our carry on luggage and just spending the $20 to get 2 more new ones..no big deal. So please don't judge my character without knowing me. I just don't think it's such a big deal if you bring it back and re-use them.

Nowhere in that did I attack your character. In fact, I stated that if doing that didn't give you a guilty conscience, then that was cool. However, I am not like that.

My comments stated facts. If you don't think it's a big deal to refill an old mug, then more power to you. I really love paying for me and you anyway.

That's like the family that entered the park with one ticket. The man went through and then caused a diversion with a stroller and my mom had thought the woman had already put her ticket through so she put her ticket in and the woman went in on my mom's turnstile pass. Then my mom couldn't get in because it said it was already in use. People will do anything to get something for nothing. Obviously, since I work my butt off to go to Disney, it doesn't sit well with me.

We work our butts off too..It's costing us over $3000 for the 2 of us to go to Disney this year, about $600 more than it did 2 years ago for a package. We are planning on taking about $2500 spending money with us because we are only eating in 2 EPCOT restaurants this year and won't be on the dining plan. That's almost $6000 for the 2 of us for a week..am I complaining, no but we are working our butts off to save money and we are still a little short with a little more than a month to go before we leave. Like I said, I would never think of stealing anything, trying to get into the park on one ticket, etc. Forgive me if I think in the grand scheme of things and how much money we are spending on this trip, the refillable mug issue is pretty small. I respect your opinion as well, but when you said if that's the way I felt cool, but you were raised with morals, that was interpreted to say that you felt I didn't. But, this is my last say on the subject, this is supposed to be a happy posting place and I didn't mean to start anything, just wanted an answer to a question.:headache:

See here's the thing....Disney doesn't seem to think it's a big deal either. Now...I've been going to WDW since '99. I have three DxL mugs, that were bought when they were good forever. Have I brought them back? Nope. Not even when we returned to POR..on several occasions.
Now, I have a grand total of 20 of the refill mugs...from POP, ASMusic, Polynesian, DxL, POR, BC, BW, CR, and TL. I did bring my two POP mugs back last weekend. We were there for three nights..I did buy a third mug so we would each have one. No way was I buying three more for just three nights, not when I already have two that are the exact same design. Now, I have two of the 'old' POP style mugs, and three of the new YOMD style.

Am I guilty? Nope. At least Disney got my money at some point. Those using Nascar, Spongebob, SW mugs, as well as various thermoses, and water bottles should feel badly. They paid nothing to Disney for their drinks!! And yes, I saw all those things at POP last weekend. In addition to many different resort mugs.

My issue is that Disney allows it. They do absolutely nothing to halt the practice. They fully realize it's going on, and yet, nothing is done. When Disney decided to call a halt to mug abuse, then it will stop.

just back from pop and yes we bought new refillable mugs as we do every time we visit but a lot of people re use old refillable mugs and get away with it so i think its high time the hotels used a barcode like they do at blizzard beach
