So, I used to always buy bottled waters while in the parks. Nowadays, I understand that we will have access to water for free in the parks. Do we need to bring refillable bottles or can we take our mugs in since we will all have one due to being on the ddp?

They give out cups of ice water. Sometimes they are very small, but you can get as many as you want. They will not fill a container that you brought with you. You can of course dump the cup of ice water into any container you wish.

Also, when getting the ice water at a counter-service location, just walk up to the pickup area and ask for some ice water. There is no need to wait in line. Usually, they have a bunch ready to go if it is very hot, which is most of the time.

Some of the water stations had signs up not to refill water bottles directly (from a cooler holder). But once in their cup you can pour it into your bottle. These were the tiniest cups.

The CS locations have either a tray made up to grab & go or will make at your request, these tend to be a bit larger, but still small. We typically take or ask for more cups than we have people, so we have enough.

In neither case do we carry an empty bottle in & in neither case will they take an empty bottle from you behind a counter to fill.

At the self serve drink stations like Backlot Express in HS or Satuli Canteen at AK, you should be able to fill your cup with ice & water yourself. Again, we just use their cups.

The only real benefit to carrying a resort mug into a park is to fill it at resort before going to park & refill on return w/o going to room. While convenient, this is a bulky way to have the mug with you. We don't carry it into parks.

Yes we bring our DDP mugs with us into the Parks - but knowing that: the CM's cannot fill them up directly - they have to give us the paper/wax foodservice cup and then we pour it in the mug and go. But when it's time to leave the CS/TS and get in line for rides, we have time to finish the drink if it's in the mug.

I think that Disney is working on installing water bottle filling stations, but I don't expect them to offer the Freestyle machines with all the beverage options that our DDP mugs are used at the resorts for...
