I want to say this: I am NOT a troll, looking for flames and never ever have, or ever will "dupe" Disney. Just a thought I had while on my trip last week.

I know this has been discussed but can't find info on it at all...
I saw someone with a resort mug(not even sure if it was a Disney one at that maybe it was a different resort) refilling his mug. Not being a tattletale but it is seeing this guy do this that sparked my thought and questions.

How often does Disney change their resort mugs? Also, since it is valid for the duration of your stay, and I went last week and I go again a month from now and its the still the same mug, aside from asking me for a receipt, How would they know when I purchased the mug?

I know there has been talk about RFID's and the mugs also, as I am sure that would help solve that problem but they would have to de-activate the microchip thing wouldn't they?

I only get to go maybe every other year, and the cups were different the last time I went(2009)

Thanks for any info. Just some thoughts I wondered on my last trip(which went fantastic! Can't wait to go back!)

Only going to tackle this part. All mugs have a unique code. When you buy a mug it gets put into the system as active and gives it some ending date.

Every time you fill up it looks to the main system to see if the mug is still active, in other words not past it's expiration date. They don't have to do anything to the mug.

ok I gotta ask being a smark alec that I am if they mug expired what happens does the fountin machine not work? just wondring cause I will be going next week and have pd for DP so I will get mugs BUT I have mugs from 2 yr ago that I was gonna bring along with a basket to pt filled mugs in so at 6 am I can send hubby to fill em up with caffine!!! and I drink it sooooo fast ( so does he ) I said hey fill em all! We went to WDW in mid-May for 2 weeks. The resort mug has 3 different colored lids (green, pink, and black) but the same bottom. Mickey, Minnie and the gang relaxing in a beach/pool type atmosphere. I should have taken a picture of it!

There is no RFID; nothing to scan at any of the refilling stations so that the machine would work (the water parks had a scanning thing on their mugs).

We used it when we went to 3 resorts. It was the same trip but the reservations weren't linked.

Oh I guess I didn't fully explain the RFID mug thing, it is/was just a pilot program at one resort. I don't know if its still running.

they do update the mugs each year. but so far they have not activated the refill system anywhere else but all stars.
